For some time I have been considering various ways to solve the issue of coaling locos and emptying the ash pit. Fortunately developments with 82G, where a new coaling stage has been built, resulted in the old coaling crane being rendered redundant. It has now found a new home on Norwood Road.
A coaling stage based upon Three Bridges is being constructed by David Amias and will shortly be installed in the empty space behind the crane. Once received scenic work will recommence.

The word 'compromise' is one I and probably many other members are familiar with when trying to build a 7mm/0 gauge layout. 
Available space and what we imagine can be fitted into it just never works out! Baseboard width always stumped me in a 6' wide shed. You have a neat collection of locos and so an MPD layout is probably the best way of showing them off, plus a loco shed offers ample justification for visiting locos from other regions.

Hi Larry, my original plan was for a somewhat larger loco depot, naturally! It all fitted on the graph paper but then reality set in. All the pointwork was built by Chris Thomas.
When he delivered it there was absolutely no way everything would fit where I thought it would fit! Compromise entered the vocabulary very early on. In the end the track layout is roughly what I proposed, only a double slip (compound) had to be left on the drawing board. The other compromise is that overall the layout is more cramped than I had hoped but it is fine.

I have been testing four ex LBSCR locomotives on Norwood Road
K class 32346 has been with me for heavy modifications. The rebuild has had to be a compromise due to the errors made by the original builder. At least it looks like a post war loco now albeit the dome is certainly pre WW2..
Furthest away is C2X 32444, a chance purchase from Stafford (2025). Overall a very good build and fitted with sound. It has an Ashford smokebox door which will have to go once I can find a Brighton domed door. I'm also contemplating making it into a single domed version; time will tell.
This line up reminds me of Sunday morning at Norwood Junction (75C). Although no K class moguls were allocated there after WW2 there were always a couple or more on shed every day. 32456 will soon return to her owner for a well deserved repaint.

Developments on Norwood Road took a significant step forward with the delivery of the coaling stage.
Built by David Amias and based upon the facility at Three Bridges shed it fitted exactly in the space I had mapped out for it. Then I realised I had not made any provision for clearance alongside to coaling dock under the roof. Entirely my mistake! The stage is now 10mm narrower that first constructed, locos do pass successfully and I could breath again.
Thoughts now turn to future developments. The water column shown lower left is always in the way whenever I take stock shots. To move it to the other end of the pit would be un-prototypical for a Southern shed. I've decided that once the brickwork is weathered in, a very low "bung", maybe just a bucket, can be put over the hole for the peg of the column so unrestricted photos can be easily taken.
A small diesel fuelling point will be installed just off the turntable. I plan something similar to that provided at Norwood Junction shed which just consisted of a siding for the tank wagon, a holding tank/reservoir and a pump and a small building.
