O Gauge Heljan 33 Improvements and JLTRT MK2s.

Back to the MK2s... A package of Roe-Vac vents from Shapeways has arrived. On first inspection I was quite pleased.

However, now I've put some primer over them they're not as smooth as they really should be and the bolt detail around the edge of the baseplate hasn't come out at all.

All I can think it print orientation again:confused: But that said they do make a big improvement to the JLTRT MK2 roofs.

Or the way round the lack of bolt detail is to add the little etch I originally produced. I think it looks good but does introduce a degree of faff when fitting.

If I ever have to make some Mk11s, I hope that these detailing parts are still available.

Who knows tbh, I produced them because I wanted to improve my models as opposed to making a buck. Obviously I'm happy to sell them on to others who want them but I'm no trader.

Bit of glue, filing down the base, Vallejo primer and voila.
ROE VAC FILLED & PRIMED.jpg
On future prints I'll reduce the thickness of the base as filed was an odd exercise. It was like trying to cut a tree in the summer. A resin like substance seemed to appear. Don't know if that's how it's meant to be or you're not meant to file FUD.

Am I getting too focused on toilet vents?:p

love the attention to detail. Tom did you ever do an etch for the door frame strengtheners you were doing on the Mk2 and the foot steps

Nice work Tom!
Have you got to the point of having some MK2 add ons available that I can buy from you?
We spoke over on RMweb a while back, but you had a dodgy packing incident from the etchers resulting in written off stuff.

First thing for the JLTRT Westerns would be an etched guide to reduce the side window corners, they are far too rounded, so a small jig for the less confident would help.

Hi Cliff,

Yes, sorry for not replying sooner. I've got most of the MK2 details now with a couple more to add. I'll drop you a PM tomorrow with details :)

Hi Alcazar,

No plans for the Westerns - they're too early for me tbh. But chase Steph and I believe that Brian at Shawplan has done nameplates.

I've finally detached some of the under frame 33 etches from the sprue. A quick 20mins of filing and gluing and voilà. There are 2 types of brackets at either end of the 33 fuel tank and battery box which HJ completely omitted. Just remove the raised plastic edge at one end, roughen up slightly for the glue the difference is below.

Then add a spot of glue and the much needed relief is added. What could be more simple?

A spot of slightly lighter blacky/brown paint than the rest of the under frame will highlight them when painted.

The next instalment will show what I've done for the brake linkages and sand pipe brackets.

Cheers
