I've painted up my mast and changed the mounting for the contact wire, here's how it looks in temporary position.

I've also been busy working on a few more wagons

Yep, end of March 1987. That's when class 25s went, newspaper trains went about the same time too.

Wow! Awesome attention to detail. I've never seen section switches in that level of detail before!

Brings back memories of standing by those structures in the dead of night, waiting for the last train to clear before taking the isolation.

I will, it's the 25s that dictate the march cut off

Wrong move to get rid of the 25's and keep the 3 1 ' s as far as I am concerned. With the right amount of work carried out on them it's was not a foregone conclusion that they could still have been going strong into the 90's and maybe beyond.

I have 7 24/5's In O gauge but only 1 31, they are not really my cup of tea, I only had that one because my old friend Will Bennett loved the loco as his ex partner was called Dora (this 31 became Sister Dora) later on in life. MTH even wrote it on the side in the grime as if a spotter had done it.

No - it's yet another real photo trying to be passed off as a model...

Seriously - that photo looks so natural that if Mickoo hadn't mentioned the open door, I wouldn't have noticed it
Surely that is an outstanding example of modelling the 'ordinary' to a superlative degree - you don't think "what a superb model" - you just accept the overall realism of the view ...

It is good isn't it As I looked at it I was thinking it'd really be something different if the platforms were wet, not sure how you could do that and not damage the model or mark it permanently. For some strange reason I always think night shots at BNS should be wet LOL

Regarding the photo, I think it's the depth of field that has been achieved, it's on a par to real life photos, not the few inches you get with models and macro photography, I also think it work's because all the elements are to the same level of uniformity, no one part stands out so all the parts make a better whole?

I can't wait for the OHLE and signals to go in, appreciate it's another life times work to what is a model on top of a model but it'll really transform the layout for me.

I agree completely with your view on that pikkie... absolutely superb representation of an everyday scene. Given that the dateline is in the late 1980s then maybe a smattering of rust on the BRUTES might be desirable.

My first impression on seeing the photo was to click on the Run-Video button and savour the sound of the 31... very disappointing to find that the pikkie is static.

Thanks Jordan, that's exactly the reaction I'm aiming for

Mikoo, it's jut a scrap half of a mk2 left over from a BFK conversion. It's just a prop (one of 2 open door vehicles I've done)

It's something I've looked into, the below image is just varnish as a test

You got it. The idea is all these detail bits vanish and go unnoticed as they would in the real world. If something like a lamp post draws your attention it's probably because it's wrong.

Funky searchlight signals at that. They can go in reasonably early. Full OHLE has to be the last thing sadly.

The Abacus column looks great! I could imagine standing there with a spring trolley to pivot it down..! Not much health & safety police in those days; we did it whilst trains were using the platforms, no barriers, people just had to navigate around us!

What did you use to make the light diffuser? I need to do some flourescent fittings in O gauge

It's lit externally by a hand held LED, as the layout is set in the day I don't need these lights to be on.
