In another example of loosing the plot I've just cut a load of individual ridge tiles from L section plastic and have sat them on a bed of mortar (filler).



Gives more of a wobbly alignment I think. Some tidying up to do but I'll wait until it's all set.

Excellent use of materials - another idea to plagiarise.

Borrow away, I doubt it's an original idea but it seemed worth giving it a go. Tricky bit is trimming the excess bits out without trashing the bit you want and distorting the frame.

Could make it a rotting window sill.

With a bit more detail to the surrounding woodwork it should look the part although not a spot on reproduction.

Shame you didn't mention this on Saturday, I've an etch going off tonight/tomorrow morning and theres space on there for some windows. They'd be full etch frames with half etch bars and all three in one with fold lines at the back to make a one piece bay window set up. More than happy to add them if you can give me the dimensions so I can draw them up this evening and not delay the delivery of the art work. Also no problems if you decide not to but the offer is there.

Thanks to all for suggestions and offers of help - what a great forum this is.

I did persist with bastardising the etched mesh and managed to get this far:



Considering a few days ago I thought this was a window option too far for me, I think it's come out OK.

I'm going to leave it to harden up before adding the remaining woodwork and replacing the roof. The original roof came off with the usual tool abuse as I decided it would be easier to install the windows to the balcony base and build up.

It's been a battle and I certainly wouldn't want to do many like that by the method I've used. Etching would definitely be the preferred option there.

I'm talking to Mickoo off-thread about the possibility of etching other metal framed windows in a certain large building I started in 2013. Thanks to Mick for his offer.

Well worth it - the frames have the look as if has been there centuries. When it comes to glazing you'll have to leave a few lights unglazed where they have broken or dropped out.
