Railway Art Exhibition - 19th August to 30th September 2018 - Locomotion, Shildon, County Durham

I appreciate that it's a bit early in the year but since calendars tend to get booked I thought that I would post up a proper notice that Chris is holding her first Solo art exhibition this year and it's being hosted by the NRM at Locomotion, in Shildon, County Durham.

I was prompted to post this because last night Chris finished her latest work, another shed scene set in the 1960's. I am not going to post any photos until after the event, because Chris wants some of the paintings to be unseen before the exhibition. - Although I may be biased, I think that this one is her best yet despite it not being the period that I am most interested in.

If you are in the vicinity do please pop along to have a look, there will be a several paintings that haven't been seen in public before, as well as those that I have shared images of here on WT previously.

With the exception of Guildex weekend Chris and I will be on hand each weekend to answer questions or just have a chat about anything and everything and the NRM are going to be stocking Prints, cards and mugs from some of the paintings should you desire a souvenir.

As you might imagine the NRM are looking to raise funds on the back of Chris's exhibition and so will be stocking prints of various sizes, greetings cards and some mugs that we had commissioned.

We are really quite impressed by the mugs, they have turned out really well. The mugs with portrait paintings have the image front and back whereas the landscape ones wrap right around the mug.


They also give a sneak preview of some of the previously unseen paintings that will form part of the exhibition.

A discussion on the GOG forum about the recent show at Doncaster, elicited a lovely comment from a gent, who said that the highlight of the show for him was watching Chris Pulham working on her painting (Chris was sat at my demo stand and had taken along a painting which she intends to exhibit in August).

For those that didn't make the show or even those that did, but missed seeing the painting, here is the work in progress. Should anyone desire it, £1500 will make it yours - after the exhibition of course

Taking it to Doncaster proved a good advertisement for Chris, after seeing the painting being worked on at Doncaster, and seeing my posting on a forum a chap contacted us to buy it.

The more surprising thing is that he's a 4mm modeller who had just gone along with a friend.

Just by way of an update and to bring this to people's attention again.

We collected the last painting from the printers today and it's off to the framers tomorrow.

All that remains is to fit four paintings with mirror plates and deliver them to Locomotion on the 11/12th of August. That in itself will be quite a task, because the exhibition comprises 28 of Chris's works created over the last 8 or 9 years and many of them are large pieces.

The Science Museum have been keeping us busy this week going over final details. They have prepared some advertising too.

I have been doing some advertising on Chris's behalf and as a result she had an article in this months Heritage Railway and next month she will have centre spread in the Best of British magazine and a mention in Leisure Painter Magazine.

Oh how your accent can get you into trouble, well not really trouble but it had an amusing outcome.

Best of British Magazine did a wonderful article for Chris about her exhibition and the reproduction of her paintings are really superb for a magazine.

Chris he had an interview over the telephone, where she was describing suffering and recovering from ME. In the article it makes reference to Chris having to give up her job due to illness and recovering from trouble with her "knee" so somewhere in translation "ME" became "My Knee". It doesn't detract from a wonderful centre spread article but it did make us laugh.

The painting of the 8F at Burton-on-Trent lives up to the promise of the photo earlier in this topic. For me the "must see" is the painting of the BR(E) shed scene which has captured superbly just how I remember such scenes from the early 1960s.

Great stuff Chris.

Lady Dikitriki and I went up to Shildon yesterday, and it was well worth the effort. The art was very well displayed, and thoughtfully grouped in themes. It looked even better for being displayed where you could stand back to look at the paintings. I particularly liked the grimy shed scenes, and for me the two that Graham referred to above stand out for their technical portrayal of the subjects. Just waiting for the lottery win . Well done Chris!....and Rob for the legwork.

It was also the first time that I had been to the exhibition hall, and there was a lot to interest me, particularly the replicas of the old locos, but the stand out exhibit was the unrebuilt original Bulleid Light Pacific Winston Churchill. Brilliantly turned out, and with clearance to walk all round it. It was utterly magnificent.
