S7 standards on a Slaters six foot eight inches wheel.

Can anyone advise if a six foot eight inch wheel from Slaters would be a valid possibility to represent a six foot nine inch wheel as for an LMS Duchess please?

TIA

Assuming the correct crank throw, position of crank pin and correct number of spokes then a half inch tyre wear, as represented by a 6'8" wheel, ought to be perfecly acceptable.

And rim, Coronations have Staniers beveled/beaded/reinforced rim, it's quite a visual thing.

I believe 3" (diameter) is the standard limit for tyre turning/wear before requiring replacement. Castles could run as low as 6'-6" and anecdotes note those with worn tyres appeared marginally sure footed on the Devon banks, but that may be anorak mythology rather than factual.

There are three 6' 8 and 1/2" wheels available from the S7 stores - the differences relate to crankpin throw ( Saint versus Star / Castle) and to pin position relative to spokes (pin inline as against pin between).
