Where on earth does time go? I received a wonderful delivery from Warren on Tuesday, my beautifully painted and weathered 8F and Std 4 2-6-0. Both in S7. I looked back at my posts regarding these two and the last post on the Std 4 was June 2017 and Jan 2017 for the 8F.
One of the things that held me up for a bit was the tender on the 8F. I had chosen to base it on 48706 which had a part welded mk2 tender. This is the only version that MOK don’t provide suitable etches for. So, I had to do my own, this included the two sides, the top of the rear, the rear and the two special tank vents.
Incidentally, if anyone would like the drawings and dxf files so they can do the same modification on the tender, then just send me a PM.
I’ll be spending the next few weeks putting the motors, decoders, servos, speakers and smoke units into the locos. I’ll post some videos of them working when this is done.
You can see the start of my layout, which has also taken a fair bit of my hobby time. Well, I say layout, it more of a large diorama really. Its based on the MPD at Bath Green Park. I’ve been using it as a bit of an experimental test bed as I try out different modelling techniques that work for me or as I’ve found on several occasions don’t!
The turntable drive mechanism is from ADM turntables and is their latest development primarily aimed at 7mm scale. It uses a stepper motor and is very accurate. Each step represent 0.075 degrees, equivalent to 0.27mm on my 60ft turntable. More than adequate even for S7 standards. I have no commercial interest in ADM but I can thoroughly recommend them. Their level of customer support has been astounding. In fact the 7mm version has come about because I bought one of their 4mm ones and it wasn’t quite accurate enough for S7. There’s no details of the 7mm version on their website yet, but I’m sure Alastair would respond to a phone call or email.

I’m playing around with controlling the layout using a computer with some software called ‘Train Controller’. Its early days yet but the initial signs are very good. I’m planning for the computer to handle the control of several locos whilst I operate one or two. That about as many as my little brain can handle at one time. I’ll post some stuff on the forum as progress is made.
Both tenders look a bit wonky in a couple of shots. That because they are! One of the springs needs adjusting in the Stanier and the BR one is missing a CSB wire on one side. The quality of the photos are quite poor, even by my standards. The layout is stuck in quite a dark corner of the room and getting adequate and appropriate light available for the photos is quite difficult. Anyway, I hope you like them.
Regards
Steve
