Two photos of Black 5 44860 on an up train passing B1 61205 on an up special near Tring Station on 14th April 1962. (I, personally, never saw a “foreign” engine working on the ex LNWR main line although I have a photo of a Hall at Willesden shed).
Seen previously in post #1843 the Black 5 had been a Rugby engine since April 1950 and then, as was common with the Black 5s, moved around a bit via Willesden im July 1964 and Banbury in October 1965 before ending up at Stoke in October 1966 where it was withdrawn in January 1967. (SLS). It went to Cohen's at Kettering where it was dismantled in April 1968. (BR Database).
The B1 was a Norwich Thorpe engine in November 1961, moving to March in March 1962 (SLS) and in December 1963 was withdrawn from active service becoming a Service Loco, No 20, as a stationary boiler for train heating with the drawhook removed to prevent use on any trains. (BR Database). See posts #4196 and #4197 for more details. It was scrapped as Service Loco No 20 at R A Kings, Norwich, in February 1965. (BR Database).
