This is an interesting point as I don't know the way to add images other than by uploading a file. I see that others embed the images in the text but haven't looked into how this is done... Any info on this will be gratefully received.

You have two options when you upload a file: Thumbnail or Full Image. Simply choose the 'Full Image' option. Please!

It's 7mm scale, Jon, which has made things easier in some ways but more complicated in others. Easier in that it is possible to see the detail one adds, but harder in that the material being machined is significantly more challenging to work on than the usual etched parts I use in 4mm scale, plus larger parts soak up heat when soldering things like frames together. I got used to them in the end.

Thank you for the reply. I struggle making small components in G3 so, how you manage in 7mm, I find baffling. Well done and such marvellous work.

I have installed the compensation beams, set the bogie height and so on. The 3 sets of motion does its thing properly and I have successfully made all the split eccentric straps removable, but I have not installed it with drop links located yet as these will need to be dismantled for future work to be completed.

All of the motion rods including the coupling rods are fluted and finished and ready to use, though there is detailing such as oil pots on slide bars and then the outside cylinder cladding. I have to add detail to the outside crossheads too.

Usually I don't fully assemble chassis until they are complete, as I test each part as I go and am confident it is going to work as it should.

I've been looking at the valence/footplate/bufferbeam/frame extensions too, and added some reinforcement to take screws to fix them to the chassis. I was relieved to find that the reversing arm that sticks out above the frames should not cause too much interference. Once the frame extensions are on and the smokebox and saddle done I'll turn to the firebox and boiler.

Stunning work - so neat and tidy but also I think it makes a difference to see some real "meat" on the forked joints. Also pleased to see the fluting flared out correctly at the ends of the rods. :thumbs:

Thanks so much for the responses, I'm not not sure how to respond myself though. I work largely in isolation safely locked away from everyone...

Adrian - properly fluted rods are one of the things I put on my made up list of aims for scratchbuilding in 7mm scale. It's pretty hard going but worth it when the effort put in elsewhere is considered.

It has been a couple of weeks so...

I had an earlier commission for a 4mm scale LSWR L12 back from being painted and lined by Iain Rathbone and as usual it's been excellently done. It has been reassembled where required and lightly weathered. So lightly that it's generally hard to see. But it definitely shows up next to a picture taken before hand. The crew is from my own range.

On the S7 LMS compound, the footplate and cosmetic frame solution has been shown to be fully successful, and work is currently underway on the smokebox. Formers for this and the firebox have been profile milled as required. Getting a suitably close fit between footplate, bufferbeam, and frame extensions required careful work.

Detailing will be accelerated via using any and all modern production methods available to produce castings where there is no real effect on appearance.

I visited Railex at the end of May and took the Compound to test clearances on a suitable piece of trackwork held at the S7 group exhibition stand. Rather pleasingly, there were no clearance issues with the bogie, frames and slidebars when propelled along a 6' radius Y turnout. I sourced a few different coil springs which I will use to control bogie sideplay.
