D1054
Western Thunderer
Posted a few pics on the "Camera" thread.
We had good talks on Hymek Liveries (Sean Greenslade ran through every livery on every Hymek!). Some super shots in there, and Sean's own records of livery changes as he saw them in and around Exeter mainly.
Good selection of original plates including THOR, WESTERN RELIANCE, WESTERN MARQUIS, WESTERN CHIEFTAIN, A Forty (sorry forgotten which one!) and some later plates.
Adrian Curtis did his stint on how John Beresford Evans was an influential no.2 to Misha Black in the design of the 52's (some pretty revealing research actually, and very interesting).
We had a nice slideshow of Blue diesels in 1979-1982 around the UK from an old spotter from Lincoln (Peter ???)
And an excellent plotted history of the DTG's fun and games with D1015 from the time she arrived at Swindon up until the evening before she hit the main-line. This was done by Tom Sawyer (DTG Chairman) who added some real fun to the story. Really good stuff in there, and again very interesting.... like she was bought for £6,100 in a non-competitive tender to BR following the farce over the commencement of her stripping whilst the group were still painting her for display on the Swindon turntable!
Really good day - enjoyed it lots - there's another one in October if you're interested?
Oh, and I bought the book - The Final Salute - all A4 colour pics - Fab shot of D1054 at BNS on page 74 and I just couldn't resist!
Catch you soon,
Boris.
