On Saturday 24 January 2015, the Wickwar Brewery is having an open day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the last passenger train to call at Wickwar Station. The stopping service between Bristol and Gloucester ended on 4th January 1965 and the line's intermediate local stations including Yate, Wickwar and Charfield then closed. The rail served brewery was a significant feature adjacent to the station's goods yard at Wickwar.
The event will be held in the brewery's historic 1860's brewhouse at The Old Brewery, Station Road, Wickwar, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire GL12 8NB. Open 11am to 3pm. There is parking on site. Entrance is free.
An event brew is promised for the day and the Brewery Shop will also be open.
There will be a railway related display on the top floor of the brewhouse including:
Farnham & District Model Railway Club's 'N Gauge', scale model of Wickwar
Sodbury Vale Model Railway Club will be represented by The End of the Line
There will be a display by the Barnhill Model Railway Club too.
[Please note that unfortunately access to the display in the brewhouse is by stairs only, there is no lift].
