I am pleased to say the bogies work as intended the piano wire rests on the bolster providing secondary springing. the rate can be varied by changing the wire or inserting blocks under the wire to shorten the effective length. Sobering thought the picture has £210 of motor gearbox and £150 of wheels I suspect two motors and four driven axles is overkill.

Finally, I couldnt resist balancing the body in place

I love these little locos (well actually this is quite a big one ) and I want to do another in blue

That looks good Cynric, presumably that's "job done" for suspension of wheels relative to bogie?

Yep, the bogie has compensation and the bolster is sprung, and it is a straight drop in replacement designed to fit the ABC units, and a pair can be assembled in about a hour I think the compensation beam would be better profile milled but it works as it is.
Yes, they will be available, pending testing.

You're just trying to make us feel better about the price of O Scale, really, aren't you..?!?

I remember sitting the body of my SB Class 22 on the chassis for the first time; it is quite a nice moment!

The wheels would be cheaper in 7mm, but then they are plastic and not cast, the motor would be the same, so probably bot much in it!

I would tend to agree, they are the very best components and I would expect them to last a long time.

From a personal point of view I think they're extraordinary value for money. Not only is there the entertainment value of building the model and its eventual running, but the cost/quality looks to be good too.

The best British model railway manufacturers manage this in spades and the worst can make a tenner look exorbitant.

In terms of a cost comparison, it makes HO seem pricey to me - I've spent that sort of money on German-made kits (before I had a mortgage though!) and, yes, I think them good value for money too. (More on my website as it's a bit O/T for here. Just in case you're interested!)

Tonights instalment of the wacky workbench

The basic green is on after a bit of pre shading, also a couple of filters and work has started on the worn metal by the drivers seat. I shall replace the steering column with some brass wire as im not keen on the banana shape



Also the Matilda is 90% built, the fine details will be left off until after painting as this is a test piece and will probably end up being stripped at some point I have the newer kit which will be raided for a better gun barrel and tracks


What can I be distracted by tomorrow ?

This mornings distractions..... a couple of tool holders. Im fed up of pliers scattered over the bench so I cut a couple of these


And a file tidy. nothing exciting but they are handy for keeping things tidy.

Yes. Im still in development stages (ie im using them ) and there may well be a few changes.
there is the Ploffy version - not Blue but with arrows
