Corris Locomotive?

I built this Kerr Stuart Tattoo class locomotive from a Wrightlines kit too many years ago to remember. Originally intended as a wagon load, I must get around to building the Lorriot wagon, and painted in the apparent war time red/brown colour by the GWR. Unfortunately, it ended up a gloss dark brown which wasn’t what it said on the can. . It has been expertly repainted by Conrad Cooper:

Very nice. Mine is currently being painted having finally finished it off after being part built for 25 years!

Just completed an Iconicrail Corris “Toad” for it.
Interestingly this picture answers another question as to if the other side was branded.

Nicely done. Good to see you finding a photo to answer the branding conundrum.

My No 4 is now finished, though the running isn’t as smooth as I’d like yet so may well get a bit more tinkering.

I have an Iconicrail coach kit to tackle sometime and am wondering on exactly what colour to use? If it’s brown, would the Great Western have supplied chocolate as used on their coaches?

The GW took over the line in 1929 and promptly stopped the passenger service in 1931 so doubt any carriages would have been painted by the GWR. The Corris already had an established bus business which are more likely to have received the paint!

The Corris brown carriage livery is not dissimilar to Pullman Umber. Either that or LBSC Umber would be where I’d start looking.

I chose green just to be a bit different. I contemplated dark blue but the lettering transfers are shaded blue so wouldn’t have stood out. It’s BR Southern region carriage green from a spray can that I used.

Cheers

Would you have details of the interior please?

Would that be for the prototype carriage or the model? I’ve not got much of interior shots of the real one but I will be driving a train that includes the Corris carriage a week on Sunday.
Prototype details if possible. I have an Iconicrail Corris coach to build and would like to get it as accurate as possible. We called in a week last Saturday but nothing was running. .

No worries. Have had a quick search on Flickr too….

The seats were all originally slatted, but both the Corris and TR have padded bases on their carriage seats.

Corris Railway example:

TR Corris coach interior:

TR Corris coach interior again, the vestibule on the left has an original style slatted seat base in:

Found some photos of the coach I took a couple of years back when I had it on a wedding train at the time I was building mine.

That might be a common experience. I've tried twice to travel on the railway and arrived when it should have been in service to find it dead and no sign of life. Doubt I'll bother again :(

I’m guessing a lighter wood on the inside panels and seats with a “grey” floor in the entrance. Plan will be to brush paint the interior, mask off windows from the inside then spray the outside body. Glazing and seats later. Probably get a few wagons to make up a short mixed train. What planned to be a load for a wagon has grown!

The rails were well rusted too.

Yes, that’s would work. Think I painted mine a ‘tan’ brown shade on the inside.

It’s amazing how these things evolve, I bought a Slaters wagon kit intending for it to sit on a siding at an exchange wharf on a narrow gauge layout. I’ve now build half a dozen, some carriages, have some locos and a drawer full of kits, now needing somewhere to run them!!

The Corris usually operates on Sundays, the operating dates are on their website. But there were a couple of times last year when they couldn’t run due to not having crews. Thankfully, the Talyllyn runs daily from Easter to the end of October so you can still get a steam fix across in the next valley.

My failed attempts at riding the railway were in 2024. What was frustrating was that wasn't even a note pinned up to say it wasn't running, that's pretty poor.

Thanks Andrew, I happened to be passing on my way home from North Wales. Unfortunately, 0 gauge is a bug that bites very hard! I can run my dock tanks on my small exhibition layout Graig Wen Colliery but anything smaller than a small 0-6-0 doesn’t like the tight curves.
