Charford Mk II
Issue 100 (1998)
p.25
4mm/00
John Charman's original 'Charford' was started not long after World War II and went on to thrill and inspire railway modellers for well over 35 years, thanks to regular appearances in the model press throughout the 1950s, '60s and '70s. It was in many ways the most important 00 model of the post-war era, brilliantly capturing the Southern's unique atmosphere and pushing scenic and operational boundaries while never pretending to be state-of-the-art. Now there's a new Charford. The old character is still there, and John's sheer enjoyment of modelling and love of railways - especially the Southern - continues to shine through, an object lesson in how to get the most from your hobby.
