My plans to join Ross's "Alternative S7 Group" failed miserably today... picked up what I thought was Bargain of the Show at the Bring'n'Buy stand; a 2-Rail converted Lionel 'Percy' (for my lad, honest!!) with three wagons for £75....

Then... I thought is might be a good idea to test it - but I did chicken out of asking to test it on the real S7 track - on the F/S track it moved about 12" and released Magic Smoke.... and refused to budge again.
So my little "S7" gag failed spectacularly, but I got my money back.

Shame I couldn't make it. I was offered a Derby Lightweight body if I could get there but we've just got back from Center Parcs and I would have been outcast for life had I ventured off and liquidated the account.

For the early birds Helgan were selling Brush 47 & Hymek bodies £40 but all the 47's had gone by 10.05 by the time I got there ,3 Hymek bodies left and they soon went. Fine scale models were selling Bachmann 24/25 bodies £80 ,underframes ,motor bogies and some DMU bodies .All that was left by 4.00 was a body with a roof mounted one skin-head end and the other with a roof mounted indicator box .
On Brian Daniels stand you could compare ta JLTRT Western and a Helgan . To my eye the windows on the Helgan version looked better and the grills more defined .

I bought mostly parts for projects that I had pre-ordered but I picked up a loco kit from Gladiator that my son has bought me for my birthday next month and I succumbed to a couple of GE wagon kits from Andy Beaton (Ragstone Models) this morning and some LNER wagon transfers from the HMRS.

I also picked up a minor bargain from Skytrex in the form of a couple of packs of Slaters Seated passengers for £5 per pack.

Finally, at the WTers meet on Saturday, I got to meet Jordan... and there is no similarity between the profile avatar and the real-life Jordan. No big stick, no clamps, no tie! On t'other hand, the humour in real life is as good as comes through in the posts. A pleasure to meet you at last Jordan .

We enjoyed our first Guildex so much that we have just booked the same hotel for next year and got it cheaper than we paid this year The only downside to the trip was that sign posts are so bad in Telford, that it took an hour to find said hotel after we arrived in Telford on Friday.

Like Graham, I managed to put a few names to faces albeit, I didn't make the meet up at 1.00 either day
I manage to meet met Richard (Dikitriki), Tony( Diabateg), and Colin (Eastside Pilot) and catch up with a few other WT'ers that I have met before.
I also met a few of the traders that I have dealt with from a far, one of whom Andy Beaton let me take a couple of kits and send him a cheque on (in the post this evening). This was after I asked if he took cards when I had used all my cash - what a gent

A happy misfortune with Laurie Griffin allowed me to return to the show this morning, so I managed to get a second dose.

I only went saturday, Wow the day went very quick again !!. Was great to meet up with everyone again, We must do it at all shows !!! Lol

I got everything except some bogies off Easi Build, ran out of my limited budget But i did get one of the Hymeks bodyshells off Heljan, with Ross & Phill for £27 each Pics of my buys to follow

I had a brilliant 2 days at Telford. Saturday was hitting the trade stands, largely for consumables - paint, wire, taps, Laurie Griffin, Hobbyhorse castings, Eileens - spent a fortune on not much really. Sunday, I took Lady Dikitriki to the show, and she spent as much time chatting as I did. Mainly layouts today, but nothing really grabbed my attention for various reasons. I found myself drawn to the American layout and continental layout opposite each other as something different.

I did buy a couple of loco kits, both for Heyside - a Lanky kits Barton-Wright 0-6-0 tender loco, and an MOK 76xxx. 70 odd years apart in the design, but both appropriate. I also spent time talking to Paul Bambrick about some partial backscenes for Heyside

It was great to meet everyone from WT, acquaintances old and new. I also bumped into Andy York who showed me the BRM Heyside photos he took. Wow! Fantastic is all I can say.

Off to the SVR tomorrow, and back to the real world on Tuesday.

Totally agree Richard, the American layout was the only layout that caught my attention, and I've spent quite a bit of time watching it at previous shows too.

It makes me even keener to build a layout that's a little different..!

Seconded JB, unfortunately I didn't get to see many layouts but I did see the American one and it was very nice. I managed to drag the wife to Telford for the weekend and it can't have gone that bad as like Rob we're re booking for next year and she even took a leaflet from the Finney stand, I'll highlight the V2 when she's not looking . Lots of bits and bobs bought and I took possession of a real find which I bought before Telford but I won't reveal that until I start the build on my workbench a great weekend, looking forward to next year,

Had a good Telford this year got a few bargains, Hymek bodyshell, Skytrex Peak and 31 bodyshells, wheels for my Hogwarts Olton Hall conversion and numerous bits and pieces from Easybuild for the Lima Mk1 conversions I'm doing...
Thanks to Phill for driving and thanks to Lancer who had to endure my snoring for 2 nights ha ha.. Also thanks to Mr and Mrs Dikitriki for their hospitality @ 'Heyside' Saturday evening too..

Another top weekend for me too and it was good to catch up with everyone.

I didn't buy too much really - some cast horn blocks for my "Castle" from Peter Silvester, a GWR platform mounted water column from Ragstone Models and Gordon Gravett's latest book on creating grasses, flowers, puddles and the like (an excellent book in my opinion).

Had a great time again at Dikitriki's post-Telford party (thanks again to Richard and Linda for their excellent hospitality) and it was nice to meet Mick and his wife for the first time there too, as well as Linda's friend, Annie.

Had a bit of a senior moment on the way home, when I missed my junction for the M5 (it's signposted for the M42 first you see) and carried on down the M6 for about 10 miles before I was able to turn back. It added a good half hour to my journey and meant I was driving for 3 hours, 20 minutes. I could barely stand when I got out of the car, but the most annoying thing was getting indoors 2 minutes after my wife had put our eldest daughter to bed.....!

Other than that though, I had a great time. Roll on next year!
