I think the layout with the apparently anachronistic air conditioning was Rushen Valley. It is billed in the guide as a fictitious preserved railway, so air con isn't so out of place if it's set in the present.

A recurring question sometimes is "Why aren't there more layouts based on Preserved Railways?" - often the underlying motive being you could "run what you like". This sort of thing goes to show why not - it's actually quite difficult to do, so that viewers know they are looking at a 'Preservation/Heritage" theme, especially if, like me, they don't read the Show Guide!!
There was a nice O Scale branchline layout at Hayle, that ran an unlikely-looking train of a BR steam tank pulling some Brake vans including one in Railfreight red/grey. I joked to my lad it looked like a Brake Van special on a preserved line ...turns out that's exactly what it was .....

I didn't look at the railways at Telford, but the attempts I have seen at modelling preserved railways fall far short.... the prototype needs observing as much as any model railway.....running anything & everything as on the ones I have seen simply does not cut it for me

Not posted anything for quite some time but thought that i would just mention that i too enjoyed Telford show.

Great to meet Simon and Neil for the first time. Really nice guys. They seemed to enjoy the "hydraulic mafia " curry , beer and banter night.

PS , Simon i am already on the motorail mk2 project and look forward to seeing a motorail service on your garden railway.

I bought a Dapol Terrier in LBSCR livery- incredible vale at £140 but you have to be a member of their club. There are one or two things to put right - some of the fittings are a bit askew but it is truly impressive. I've ordered another in BR black but with sound, as the LBSCR one will be showcase only - but then, thinking about it maybe it should be a station pilot a la the Liverpool Street and Newcastle pilots and Brighton Works loco.

I also bought a wooden transport box for the A3. The loco is so long and heavy it won't fit in to a conventional large card box easily - I've been happy with these previously and will continue to use them for most builds. However, help needed here (and I've looked at the Show Guide which is no help) - who would the manufacturer be? It's not Parkwood nor SM Models. He was approximately where Dapol were supposed to be in the same hall as Heyside. Those who were there will know that some of the stands in this hall were moved around compared with the layout shown in the programme. Unfortunately the box is not branded. Photos can be supplied if that would help in the identification. It's a good box with a foam liner and I may want more for other similar large and heavy locos.

Other than that a jar of metal black from Hobby Holidays and some BR green enamel spray paint for the production of boiler bands together with a Bob Moore large pen tip, Evo Stick Contact Adhesive and Microscale Crystal Clear and I was done.

All in all a great couple of days and I actually resisted buying any kits this year - first time ever, I think.

Thanks so much Baz. Charming chap (and his son, I assume) and had made some nice models from Connoisseur kits, but didn't strike me as a super technophile (if that's the opposite to Technophobe!) Nevertheless I was impressed with the boxes and I'll see how well the one I have fairs in use. They certainly hold the contents securely and there is no tendency for them to tip over when opened.

Yes, he was on his own most of Saturday & had family assistance on the Sunday if I remember correctly. We got talking about boxes for G1...!?!?
