INSPIRATION:
This 4mm/00 gauge layout is a standard gauge line from Welshpool to Llanfair based on a proposal in 1876 to construct a line from Llanfair to Welshpool. Although authorised, the scheme was eventually abandoned. Enter my model! The buildings and colouring are based on others on the Cambrian system. The name 'Llanfair Road' was derived from a local hostelry that was an important staging post before the coming of the railway.
Being built to standard gauge, it is assumed the branch survived into BR days until 1965. It became a narrow gauge heritage line......!
Traffic:
Branch trains were normally push-pull and two-coach trains of corridor and non-corridor stock with through workings beyond Welshpool.
Livestock cartage was falling off in the early 1950s, but Llanfair Road became a manufacturing town in the late 1930's when 'Waramac', manufacturer of waterproof clothing, moved its operation to the town to provide much needed employment.
POST-NATIONALIZATION:
The period of the layout is circa 1958-9.
MOTIVE POWER:
4mm scale : GWR blue route.
OBJECTIVES:
DCC control for smooth operation of mechanisms.
Not a blow-by-blow construction, but just to say I am using the base of the building to position walls until the UHU Wood glue is set. It has to be removable so glazing can be fitted after spraying...
Holding the roof down while it sets. It will only glued to the walls after painting and glazing...
