4mm Llanfair ....

The baseboard is now covered with vinyl grass, which is similar to an undercoat. Now I have to decided what to do with it! The siding at the front edge of the baseboard has been removed as unnecessary. This narrow layout could now be reproduced in 0 gauge with tracks going out through the end wall. It'll probably never happen even though the pull of 7mm is always with me...

This side of the bridge never used to be seen, so it's been patched with Wills stone. Two trees will eventually hide the mismatched backscene by the bridge...

How shunting works at Llanfair. Daily goods arrives...

WEB shunt 1.jpg

Loco runs round and picks up the brake van....
WEB Shunt 2.jpg

Which it deposits in the loop or make-up siding...
WEB Shunt 4.jpg

Goes to yard to collect empties from shed and coal yard...
WEB Shunt 5.jpg

..And places them in the make-up siding with the brakevan...
WEB Shunt 7.jpg

The newly arrived wagons are then shunted into the goods yard....
WEB Shunt 8.jpg

Loco then goes to the outgoing wagons to await a path back to the junction...
WEB Shunt 9.jpg
If passenger train is due, the goods train moves into headshunt to leave loop free. Goods loco can replenish coal and water at any time during shunting manoeuvres...

I've had a different kind of lifestyle since 2021 with plenty of non-hobby activity, hence the slow progress.

Anyway, I removed years of sanding dust, spray dust, sawdust and frankly, rubbish this morning. So for the first time in 6 -7 years, the bench opposite the layout is actually tidy instead of being buried under piles of everything to do with layout building. The window side is of course meant for a fiddle yard, something it hasn't had since around 2016...

Evening Larry,

Really great stuff. It is all coming together very well.

I fear Dr Beeching cannot be far away! :p Please don't rip up Llanfair just yet!

All the best,
