Bear with me; I'm a slow processor and only found the introduction section just now after some months on WT!
This is not the first forum I've been on but apart from the Caley Forum it's the only one now really of any substance.
Originally from Glasgow I now live in Inverbervie (henceforth referred to by it's local and original name of 'Bervie) to where I returned home after a 23 year tour of duty in Carlisle!
I have a raft of various interests from pre group to the blue era. Primarily Scottish though I do have a lingering soft spot for the NE Region and the Cumberland and Westmoreland lines.
Right now, for the first time in 40 years, I'm creating my first proper layout; St Clements Goods; essentially a pastiche of the Aberdeen goods yards in the third quarter of the 20th Century.
I'll do a proper update on that over the next couple of days but I'm off to work just now so it needs to wait.
My moniker here is inspired by my big black greyhound dug. My best buddy!

More from me soon!

Hi Davy, I suspected who you were from your previous posts so welcome, as you say this is one of the better forums. Looking forward to seeing what you're getting up to these days.
Wharfeside has been invited to ModelRail Scotland in 2025 so the panic button is hard down and whilst working on it Jamie and I were talking and you were mentioned last week...

See you sometime.

Hi Davy

And a welcome from me too. I'd noticed your moniker on the Hornby Black 5 thread, and thought there can't be too many people with a Gaelic dog name moniker who model ScR based Black 5s! Good to see you here and hoping that now you're getting more settled in your new home, you're finding more opportunities to get some modelling done.

cheers
Ian

I have been enjoying looking at the offerings of other modellers in WT and I think, given I am starting to limit my online life that this is one of those places worth keeping an involvement in.
I'd like to be doing more modelling although tbh, since I came home to Scotland I have hardly stopped with other tasks but particularly over the past year with work. Over the last year, although I am only a three day week part time worker, changes at work led to me ensuring shift of 10-12 hours meaning I could be away from home for up to 13 hours; a lot of that unpaid breaks.
The job requires high levels of concentration and leaves my pretty drained and therefore, now not long having hit 60, I came to the conclusion that it was time to go, just like it was in my old career ten years ago.
No sooner had I made this decision than a couple of days later, the company announced the closure of my home depot, which pretty much validated a decision I had already made, so if I just stick it out for a few more weeks I should be due a small pay-off.
Psychologically I already feel a bit more energised! It's going to mean cutting back a little and living off the old job pension but my overheads are pretty low and I still have loads to do with the time here.
Now, if anybody knows anything about budget fire surround construction I'm all ears!

Davy - Agree with Allen, had a similar experience to you and took the chance on managing on the pension. I love it, but there is no extra time! The question around how we ever had time to go to work always crops up!
Can't help with the fire surrounds though sorry.

Enjoy your new life.

John

PS lovely people on here.
