A RTR G3 Manning Wardle 'H' Class?

Hi Lindsay,
Love the idea of a RTR brass G3 Manning Wardle . I think this would fit into the Gauge 3 scene very well indeed. I would have at least 2 if they came painted for less than £1000 . I would prefer the option of track or RC power which shouldn't be too hard to arrange .
As to sales in general I think it might depend on how wide you are willing/able to cast your net. The G3 society has a fairly small number of active modelling members . If you were to advertise in the general model railway press and maybe even the model engineering press, as Kingscale and KM1 Modelle have done, I think you would sell 25 easily and 50 eventually . Another way to look is at manufacturers like LGB and Accucraft and the prices they are selling similar scale models for. Yes the gauge is different but as has been mentioned a lot of large scale models end up in display cases anyway .
Generally I would go along with all the comments on here so far .

And hopper wagons ... you will find most british wagons with similar wooden frames have 9 or 10 foot wheelbases.
And yes I do the castings for those self contained buffers . However you are probably best buying them from William's Models ( Mike W on here ) , as he sells them with the heads and springs to make them complete .

You can pm me on here if you have any other queries about castings, etc.

Hi Ian, my brother's name is Ian, and my wife and I have four kids, so the handle was a doddle to work out.
Looks like Mike Williams is going to supply all kids of bits I need. Thanks for all of the info you've shared here.

Hi everyone,
Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread, and especially those who have taken the time to send personal mails and engage in discussion about a G3 Manning Wardle H Class. I think the project is 'dead in the water', for these reasons:

a) Whilst it's clear to me that a market exists, such that 25 of these locos would sell in fairly short order, all but a handful of the respondents wanted to buy an existing model - that is, after it has been produced, and could be examined and reviewed before handing over the cash (which is fair enough!)

b) Some modellers (less than 5) were prepared to put down a deposit, but none were prepared to pay up-front for the model via a crowd-funding site like Kickstarter. Thus, the project would need a 'sugar daddy' with at least GBP30,000 spare to fund the production run, with no actual guarantee of selling them all, as the factory may well (in the current Chinese economic circumstances) require a minimum run of more than 25 to be ordered. This is too big a risk for an individual or group to take, and who could blame then in Britain's current uncertain economic times?

c) Other modellers said "Great idea", and then proceeded to tell me what THEIR favourite prototype was and why it would sell in the dozens if only I (or someone else) would produce it. "I'd buy two", they say, but could not name 15 other people who would be certain to do likewise!

So, thanks for all the great feedback and engagement with the idea that people shared. I will not approach the factory and waste their time with no resources to back the enquiry. I'll happily move back into my role with Ixion Models, and stay connected to this most interesting forum. I'll slowly build up some Australian Gauge 3 stock, and maybe another suitable industrial loco will appear in the future.

Cheers all,
Lindsay O'Reilly.

Good Evening Lindsay

I have just picked up on this and can understand your resons and reactions , on the back of that can I offer you two thoughts ?
So far the G3 comunity has not succumbed to the heroin of ready to run like the O gauge market , however a kit might work . And to your last point of another industrial how about the ex Mersy Railway 0-6-4 beyer peackock side tanks ? As I belive you still have one to measure though I belive it is still unrestored .
