Yup I decided I wanted a train that helps set the scene too, so the tankers gave it a bit of help in that respect. I did a bit of a walkabout last year around Whimsey and we must have been very close to the whimsey bituman site, but it is changed beyond recognition. There are still a few locations where you can see the rail history though. In the next month or so I want to go back and snap the autumn colors in the forest too for another project and possibly to change AYd a bit more before next year. Theres still options in changing the appearance of the layout moving the buildings which is nice for snaps too.

Yes, I was well aware that the general location was F.o.D. - the Sept 2012 Railway Modeller gives it away as well
- but - slightly tongue in cheek - I was narrowing it's location down further to just one of the routes, based on the wagons in the train.

Great stuff. Really like this shot and those Berry Wiggins tank wagons set the location nicely.
Out of interest are the Berry Wiggins tanks stock Bachmann ones or are they repaint using Model Master and POW Sides decals.
The POW Sides ones are the most accurate and have the 'Liquaphalt' sheilds some of these tanks carried.
Be nice to see some more shots of these wagons.

That's quite a large shovel for a pannier... A clinker shovel of course but rather unwieldy in a pannier cab.. Lol

My post re 'the shovel' referred to one on the previous page, but the links appear to have broken to all those images..?
Anyway I wasn't on about the long-handle shovel on the rear hooks, but a small, short-handled one, stuck in the top grab iron on the side of the bunker.

Those are the sort of shots I like, the ones that do 'take you there' as Steve Flint says, where you could imagine yourself actually trolling around the place as if it were real. A bit like the allotment shot in the latest MRJ.

to me that is the key to great modelling, nothing stands out and it looks natural.Great depth of field makes it a great picture for one thing! As the Guv says, it looks so ordinary - well "Everyday" I'd put it; the sort of view that would've been unremarkable at the time, but is full of nostalgia now.

Kind of starts to push the boundaries between modelling and the real thing.

Ben' s photography really brings the FoD railways to life and captures the spirit of the network of lines. Much like Paul's layout does.
BR Steam in Dean is a wonderfully evocative book with some beautiful photography by Ben. Those Berry Wiggins tank wagons on there way to Whimsey-real inspiration. Why did I sell my Bachmann Berry Wiggins tanks?

As I count myself a Ben Ashworth fan too, with several of his books in my collection, for me "that Famous one taken from a tree" doesn't actually narrow it down that much.....
I know why I sold my Bachmann Berry Wiggins tankers (the Set of Three)... 'cos I'm never going to return to 4mm UK-outline, nor build a Forest of Dean layout.Why did I sell my Bachmann Berry Wiggins tanks?
...plus I have a suspicion they're not strictly accurate for the prototype....
