Any interest on here in German outline?

My in-laws live in Germany so I go quite often, though usually by car (shame!). I have stood on the Hohenzollern Brücke in Köln several times just watching the trains go by...

Lovely stuff.

The following images were Pottendorf - a layout based on DR (East German railway) in the 70's. Possibly my favourite layout. The photos were taken at Warley 05 and were featured in Model Rail International, this layout was retired in 06 and replaced by Grafenwalde (above) - does anyone remember these layouts? Sorry about the poor quality of the images, they were scans from my photos for the magazine.

Not all German outline is 'pretty, pretty' shiny plastic, the kohlenstaubwagen (image 6) was a pleasure to weather.

Pottendorf was a joy to operate and I have serious doubts whether the same satisfaction will be derived from Beaminster Road.

Hi Tim,

I have to admit that German railways have never really "floated my boat", but these layouts look terrific. I may well have seen them at shows but sadly I don't remember them.

All the best,
Dave.

Pottendorf had to be sold as it was dangerously knackered - lousy carpentry - but foolishly I did not replace it.

There are some very good German outline layouts amongst the dross but it is no different in the UK.

The very best of German railway modelling is/was to be found in the magazine HP1. Does anyone know whether it is still being published? It was always rather hard to come by...

Hi Wagonman,
In answer to your query above, Yes!
HP1 is definitely alive and well as I saw it on a recent trip to Germany. Only thing is, it's horribly expensive, I think around €20 which I thought was a bit much when I could only "read" the pictures!
Cheers,
John E.

PS Sorry for the delayed response!
