Anyone seen this?

I wonder why he called it Peover, when all the action is on the better side of the hills and the correct loco colours.

OK I've got my coat on.

5 - Can one person alone really get much operating pleasure from such a huge layout? Might seem a strange question but think about it... to run a 'proper' operating session several operators will be needed. A lone operator might set something running out on the mainline, but he'll have to leave it to it's own devices if he also wants to run a branch freight. If operating sessions are run to a timetable or sequence, then having a play on your own with one train is going to put things out of position for the next 'proper' run...

IIRC Cyril Freezer once said there was a size limit to what one man could comfortably use (and maintain), and that after that, one should use extra space to ease curves, increase train lengths etc rather than cram  more in.

I think the open stretches and sweeping junctions on Peover are nice, but that station doesnt do it for me at all, it just seems like somewhere to park trains rather than something with atmosphere

I wonder if some of the negative comments on this layout may be due to the photography. I have never heard this sort of criticism of say Retford which is in a similar size building and which is 4mm rather than the 7mm here. But then the published pictures of Retford have been by Tony Wright and Barry Norman, and perhaps their photography has given it more atmosphere than the shots which have appeared on RMweb.

It all depends on what one wants from one's creation and if I was running a football club et al. then I too would need the help of others ....
Undoubtedly any big layout is going to need more than one man's work on it. Somehow this seems more "Layout by Committee" than a real group effort such as Heyside. Sorry to pick on Heyside again but Garden Railways aside it's about the biggest layout on the Forum.

I don't really care about the layouts design, that is of course up to the owner of any layout  , but the scenic work by the chap who's posting is superb IMO  8) 8) 8)
Funny when you actually read the thread how many people ask the same questions that have already been answered .........makes me wonder if some forum users ever progress beyond looking at pictures ? ;) :))

I was talking to him (the guys doing the scenery ;D) at Keighley this morning. he was saying that he has been at it since February putting in at least two days a week. The owner asked for a trip around once then a second run with more detail which he is just about to start.

At 2 days per week, that's over £14,000 including materials. I asked him about doing a couple of days on Heyside before Manchester, but decided we just about had the task in hand.
