B1 - 61161

Yes, i had that on my computer for a while but never mastered it's use. Seems to have disappeared now.
Anyway, I've had another go at the hand rails and think I've got closer to the style used on 61161 in the 1950s. Not perfect but passable to me.
Not fixed, yet, though.

Now we're on version three, or at least two and a half. When making the LH side rail, I'd marked the position where it passed through the smokebox knob with a black marker pen. Then, in a moment of unthinking, I cut it off to the mark instead of allowing half the knob all width which meant it barely engaged in the hole. I thought it would do, fixed with a bit of solder, but after slightly tweaking the rail profile to make it more symmetrical, it no longer engaged at all.
So,a new half rail had to be bent to shape. In the end, it's a better shape than before and now engages the hole properly. This also allowed the RH rail to be slightly adjusted and I think the whole thing is now better than before.

Off to Scalefour at Crewe tomorrow, so no modelling till after that.

Had a very enjoyable weekend at Scalefour Crewe on Saturday, stayed overnight in Newcastle-under-Lyme and travelled home on Sunday via Bridgnorth and a ride on the SVR, hauled by the Stanier Mogul, both ways. Even the weather cooperated, with the odd bit of drizzle whilst we we indoors or on the train.
At Crewe, met up with several friends, discussed some modelling plans, and collected various modelling bits and my Ivatt Class 2 tank so I can finish it off.
Some further detailing bit have been added to the B1, including a lovely little machined smokebox door opening knob, courtesy of "45609" of this site. Thanks Morgan.
In the cab, the Dave Bradwell cast brake ejector and reverser screw (from is K1 parts) have been attached to the etched cab floor unit.
Apologies for the quality of the photos, but at least they give an impression of what has progressed.

The safety valves and whistle have been added to the boiler. The former are the Bachmann originals and the whistle is a Bradwell K1 part.

The mechanical lubricators have been fixed to the footplate. The lubricators are Bradwell K1 castings and the drive ratchets and hand wheels are custom parts made for me by Rumney Models.

And not least, the smokebox door knob has been fitted. Far superior to a plain length of brass or N/S rod, which was my original intention.

That's probably it for a while on the B1. My attention will now switch to the Ivatt tank, with a view to finishing it off.

Looking good Dave, especially your little knob, but I would say that wouldn’t I :)

Interesting, I fitted the vacuum brake ejector to my J39 yesterday which will be hidden behind a dirty window when the model is finished. :(

I’ll look forward to seeing the finished off Ivatt 2MT tank. Having had a preview on Saturday it really is something special.

Cheers…Morgan

Oh dear! One step forward and one step back.
The Dave Bradwell cast sand box fillers, from his K1 kit, slightly modified, have been fitted. The printed drilling jig I had done was not really a success and I ended up drilling the holes for the fillers freehand.
Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I managed to break off the rim from one of the printed lubricator hand wheels and whilst trying to get the remaining boss off the spindle, the other hand wheel went AWOL. They were the devil's own job to separate from the support structure and get onto the spindle, even with the lubricators separate, so getting the replacements on will be lots of fun, I'm sure. Perhaps best ;eft till all other work needing handling of the body has been done.
