More photos from Chris Reeve - this time the layout is Orestone Quay, appearing at the Basingstoke Show 2013. This is a layout for the WT East Anglian mafia - containers, ships, derricks, quay side railways...

and a sailing barge, hopefully Mr C&W will add a comment on the barge.

This layout can be likened to a football match in that the layout is in two halves... and to show how the photos above relate here is the track plan (an unique event... a track plan on WT!).

Time to re-visit some of the layouts which have been mentioned previously. First, East Grinstead Town and the picture from which "Beeching" was "Cut" (lower left hand side):-

And another of Lyndon Town:-

Our club has members who are retired and members who have just left full-time education... plus one or two who are somewhere in between. Occasionally layouts from Club members are exhibited at the Club Show and this year is one of those occasions - noteworthy because this layout is from one of our youngest members. The layout is of Ropley in the preservation era and that has made life difficult for in the time taken to construct the model there have been significant changes to the buildings and the site - who remembers the fire which destroyed a building recently?

Graham,

Ropley is looking good, it has come a long way in the last couple of years... Please pass on my best regards to CC.

Cheers

Today it is raining... and the weather forecast for the area is snow on Monday! However, Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be dry if overcast, so "just so" for visiting the show!

If you come, please say hello... I shall be wearing the usual Red Hat,   .

Stop by and let me know what you like /dislike about the show for this year, especially if you have any suggestions as to how we can make the next show more attractive to you  .

Hi Graham

Looks like I'll be there on Sunday. I'll look for the hat over the heads of the crowds.

Anyone else going to be there as well?

I shall be pleased to see you Phil... twice in one year after not meeting for more than 30 years!

Alkham is stunning... the modelling on this one layout alone is worth the £5 admission.

Corris 1930 is superb, Norgate is pretty tidy, Orestone Quay is excellent... I think that I shall plead "shortage of superlativres".

Sorry to say that Fisherton Sarum has been withdrawn because of sickness.

Having relatives in Kearsney I know the Alkham Valley (and its villages - well those with pubs) quite well - the photos of 'Alkham' transported me straight back there. I'm looking forward to seeing it for real.

I was also looking forward to a chat with Graham Muz - hope he gets well soon.

Cheers.

Phil

PS It can't be thirty years, I'm only twenty one (ish)!!

Saturday has been a very busy day.. our catering crew said that refreshment sales today were approaching the total for last year, someone must like the sandwiches.

Unfortunately two advertised layouts could not be with us this year, so we moved things around a bit to improve access.

Alkham in the flesh looks just as good as the photos in this thread. Other layouts which have taken my eye include Thornbury Hill, Norgate, Orestone Quay, East Grinstead... all featured in this thread. Thanks to Jordan I was able to identify some SOO stock on the Dan Patch line - Dave says Hi!

What a great show - it's not often I arrive early doors (almost) and stay until that moment when people start packing up!

What a list of excellent modelling, Ogden Fold - and the guys who didn't take operating life too seriously, Corris (I now know how it's done!) East Grinstead Town for a pre-group LBSCR education, Exchange Sidings was an understated gem, Hemyock for S7 (shame it's GW :D ) Orestone Key - spot the Ahern inspired features, I could go on, and on, and on and on ....

Trouble is that by picking a few layouts I appear to be ignoring the rest - not meant! Each in their own way was brilliant - although I did find the Dan Patch Line a bit confusing - I couldn't see anything with SOO written on it. :p

Anyway Alkham is the one for me. An area I know, closely (and accurately) modelled - the 'might have been' railway fitted into a real environment, 4' X 2' baseboards used end on instead of side on - so that the layout is 4' deep using very manageable baseboards although point placing must have been a bit of a s*d, a bomb crater provides space for the 'big house' chimneys when it's all folded up .....

I did offer one of the operators some folding money for the layout, but he did insist on five pound notes with non-consecutive numbers, I could have done this but the ink might have run on some of them!

Ian - if you read this PM me and we'll sort out which way round Kearsney really was, but have you considered Farningham Road though ..... Hope you got back to the Island before the weather closed in.

Regards.

Phil

"SOO" soorry that you missed the weekly box which was written SOO - did run yesterday, shall run next day, just no traffic this day. Might have been different if Jordan had been in town.

BTW Jordan, I did say "Hi from You" to Dave... can you explain the look on his face when I uttered the greeting?

Our Club prides itself on being "inclusive" for members and visitors alike... and we are interested always in how the show is seen by those who pay at the door. Kind comments, positive criticism and suggestions are considered carefully so that we continue to provide a show which gives pleasure to visitors, traders and exhibitors alike.

I am aware that some WTers have been to the show so please take a couple of minutes to add your feedback to this topic.

Next year? Well, Pempoul is coming, this was booked in 2011!

Can you give us a clue as to the date for the 2014 show? I missed the last couple by being away from the UK in the sunshine as I am now as write this. A cold weekend in Basingstoke has much to commend it as an alternative.

Thanks

Dave

You can invite Wters along and we can all feel envious of the winds and snow which have been prevalent recently.

This is a very interesting comment and one which can produce only a "possibly" answer. We learnt earlier this month that the Leamington Show is moving to March in 2014 and that may well cause us to move in sympathy.

As of now, my gues is Sat 8th and Sun 9th of March 2014.

I apologise to both you and the Basingstoke and North Hants MRS for having to pull out with Fisherton Sarum at short notice due to ill health, I was very much gutted to have to do so. I am pleased to say that I am on the mend. I hope to catch up with you soon.
