Can anyone identify this location?
EJM 09.08.2018.jpg
There is a main line crossing at right angles on the upper brick built bridge. The location of the lattice distant signal is interesting as are the two coaches on the right, ex ECML joint stock?
Thanks

Can I suggest St Albans London Road on the GN branch to Hatfield? Midland Mainline behind (are coaches ex-Midland?). The building on the right is very long and held a test tank for ship models (Vickers Shipbuilders). The station building and the long one still exist. Can I copy it to put it onto a local St Albans history Facebook group?

Thank you Tim and Andy for identifying this photo. I would never have guessed.
Roger - the plaudits for identifying the location must go entirely to Tim.
I just did a couple of web searches to add some context (and for my own interest to look at the track layout around the goods shed).
Just found this extra info too: London Road station – Valerie Robertson
Can you do a hi-res crop of the 2 coaches, to see if we can identify them?

Now we know where it is, the station buildings are very GNR.
If you want the site today, go to Orient Close St Albans
The station building is in good condition and is used as a day nursery.
The second pic shows a train on the Midland line which is almost complete concealed by trees.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that. I've cycled past the old GN station for years wondering what it used to look like, thanks for posting the photo!

Looks like 34066 Spitfire to me

Yes, I reckon so and I think it's a railtour, possibly the 'Sussex Downsman' 22 March 1964 - I'm pretty sure the loco only worked a bit of that. Note the Bulleid brake with roof board here:

So the route, if it is that tour, would help. It doesn't help me, but it might do for someone else.

Thanks to you all for the various pointers.

Collectively we are getting there, loco is 34066 Spitfire on the RCTS/LCGB Sussex Downsman. Location still seems to be the problem. I'm fairly certain this is south of Eridge, 34066 worked south from Tunbridge Wells West via Mayfield to Pevensey and north from Brighton via Uckfield. The banner repeater is off and the fencing around the station looks quite unusual but having trawled the net I cannot find the location.
