7mm Cardiff Canton

5081 has different shaped balance weights on the driving axle compared with the other Castles. It looks like the arrangement used on 4023(?) - a Saint or Star or something? - Not too clear on the older GWR classes.

Canton received its first hymeks in the summer of 1961. They were looked after in the carriage sheds and serviced in the DMU shed, I’ve never seen any pictures of them on the main running shed.

I could be wrong, but they look like GWR Concrete Pot Sleepers (minus the chairs), to me?

Maybe as simple as a means to keep crews' feet out of the puddles when oiling up?

They do seem to be laid out in that fashion, but for anyone wishing to replicate actual Pot-Sleepered track, Modelu do them in 4mm & 7mm scale….

Plenty of pannier activity at Canton with ex works locos in abundance.
Final shot is a castle on the coal road. Canton had 1508 as shed pilot for a few years as well. Another class more associated with the London division.

Canton did seem to accumulate a few rarities as shed pilots over the years.
I’ve just been in the garage with the hope of getting Canton on its feet but there’s far to much to sort out from the house renovations so that will have to wait a little longer, on the plus side I paid Chris Basten of Minerva a visit this morning to collect mine and my dads 56 tanks. I’ll get some pics of mine tomorrow as I’ll be heading to the Bristol workshop and I can give it a run.
The Jumbos are synonyms with South Wales mine will become 6677 a loco that carried the Caerphilly style GWR on the tank sides right to the end. A Pontypool Road loco they often worked the Hereford to Cardiff parcels train taking over at Ponty.

9710 was clearly in need of some closer attention given the rarity of its appearance in South Wales.
