I have been involved with sorting David Dornom's railway bits and pieces. David died at the end of May. Many will remember his demonstration 'Modelling on a Shoestring' which he developed as a result of his life at sea in the merchant marine. He wasn't able to take his full modelling kit.
In the box of bits for his demonstrations at exhibitions, I came across two of his cheap yet very effective turntables which can be used for painting, display and no doubt several other situations. These are made from a pair of pots in which supermarkets sell individual desserts such as Tiramisu. The centre of two square pieces of thin ply is marked and the pots stuck in place, the top of one pot and the bottom of the other. Once dry, put one pot over the other and you have your turntable. A bit of paint soon tarts them up.
So simple and cheap. Truly modelling on a shoestring. Thank you, David.
