The other Ommi51, same but different, it is still loaded with ballast. Not sure why there is a difference in the colour, both same location, same time, same iPhone.

I suspect that unless an early exKBayStsB vehicle is released in HO, that is the end of buying or even making railway stuff. Instead, I might simply fiddle about with '50-60s road vehicles, especially agricultural stuff.

And this is the crew, not the usual specimens but an odd couple from a small supplier of ‘different’ stuff. The best description so far is ‘gallic’

Rather than a 'look at what I got' upload maybe a 'how I did it' is appropriate?

The little barn tucked away in the farmyard is a cheeky repo of one that stands in Traindorf beside the lost arm of the Wiesenttalbahn to Heiligenstadt i.OFr. It is a simple barn with a half-timbered siding above a rendered base of rubble. The Wills SS30 is both a reasonable representation and more importantly cheap/accessible.

Some of the buildings on P'dorf are rendered with much the same stuff as a real building - plaster.

The material

Normal Polyfilla is used, simply because it is readily available and is easy to use. It is spread onto model with an artist’s palette knife, not particularly small as it needs to carry up to half a teaspoon of filler.

The method

One consideration is the paint the building before applying the filler, it is easier to remove the wet filler than the paint from the dry filler. If required, use masking tape to protect areas, spread the filler thinly like butter.

Once applied, let the filler harden for at least 24hrs

Smooth the filler with rough abrasive paper until the necessary finish is achieved. Please note I had forgotten to paint the building…..

Apply a wash of a suitable dilute water colour, I use yellow ochre to replicate lime or sandstone. Weather the entire building with a dusting of off-white poster colour powder, WW Scenics offer Desert Yellow.
