Bizarrely the frames are the same length as the footplate. The error is at both ends so taking an equal amount of each end will correct it and everything will align correctly.

I've ordered more hex bolts - M0.6. Thirty didn't go very far! The bolts do look much better than just 'rivets' embossed as the kit intends.

The rest will go in when they arrive and the plan is to use them to attach the various brackets at the front end.

While I've got the bolts there's opportunity to add to the frames :)

I'm thinking how to split the model - cab, boiler & saddle tank separate to aid painting I think. That's for another day, back to work in the morning,

For some reason the 50550 frames are too long, they're the same length as the footplate and wouldn't fit between the buffer beams.

I tacked the frames together and marked where the excess would need to be trimmed - using the Austerity drawings from MORILL I marked the frames with Tamiya masking tape. I'm having a few 'off' days so my tremor is worse than normal, the ability to reposition the tape if it's not quite right first time.

Once the cuts were made, the frames fitted perfectly between the buffer beams.

The frames were separated and I've marked which half etched holes need drilling out for the hex bolts. Shortening the frames mean repositioning some of the rivers/bolts.

I need to find some suitable cosmetic springs and more hex bolts, this thing has devoured them!

I've been off sick this week, with a nasty virus Not quite man flu levels of illness, but it's knocked me for six.

I decided to have a little project I could dip in and out as I felt up to it and not affecting anything else.

So I gathered up a set of parts for an RCH 1923 mineral wagon (see here) and a set of mismatched wheels having picked an ex-LMS prototype from the appropriate Acquired Wagons book.

It's coming along nicely I think :)

Latest eBay purchase, Steve Beattie class 24 kit, the later etched brass one. From what I can see it looks like a nice kit but I've never actually seen one of the brass ones completed only the earlier resin ones. I've seen part built ones but nothing actually finished.

The plan is to model D5000 as it was on the 3rd of September 1966. This was the final day of through services on the Great Central's London Extension. It deputies for a failed Black 5 on the final day of these workings, much to the disappointment of some photographers I suspect!


I recall company called Highlander we're supposed to be taking on the Steve Beattie etched kips I can't find anything beyond what seems like the statement of good intentions.

Hi Guys
I emailed Steve Beattie relating to him producing a 7mm kit of the class 24/0 he replied saying he was considering doing the kit but could not give me a time scale at the moment if it went ahead.
Just a thought maybe if people were to express an interest to him by email it might give him inspiration to produce it.
Heljan as far as I am awear are not producing a class 24 plain green livery that ran on the Southern region of BR.
