Will bare that in mind CME

First up a picture of the underside, showing the large under cab holes to get the cab details and glazing through. Also visible,  the motor batteries in the fuel tank, on/off switch  terminals to connect the motor bogie to and just in front of the fuel tank the headphone plug that the mp3 player locates on.

I guess it doesn't make interesting reading or viewing at this point as most of what has been done is fill, sand , prime repeated to try and improve the finish. Oh and some black on the frames.

Looks great John :D , but as CME says, I would stick to Railmatch Rail Blue though, it would be a shame to spoil such a lovely model with poor paint ;) . I did seven 7mm Mk2's with one & a half cans of Railmatch rail blue, so I would have thought you could do it with a couple of cans

Hi John,

nearly there then and looking really good.

If you do decide on Rail Blue, make sure that you use a grey primer (Halfords) Blue is a very 'thin' colour and you will need a couple of thin coats to achieve a constant 'depth' to the finish and a coat of satin varnish with half a dozen drops of coal black or weathered black mixed in with it will certainly add to the depth and also give the look of a working loco.

John

That is truly magnificent and I really enjoyed the video too, thank you very much for posting it all up.

A fantastic antidote to the general preoccupation with what manufacturers can or cannot do for the "modeller" - you definitely get my vote for the railway modelling OBE for this year

Some answers

No I haven't fitted R/C  I realised a while ago Id rather watch a train run round the garden while I sit and relax than drive one round, so it has a simple on/off toggle just in front of the fuel tank.

I'm not sure what the Youtube soundtrack is, I used to add my own soundtracks but began to be a bit intimidated by the copyright infringement notices I used to get, Youtube has some pretty clever track recognition software that can pick out the song even if its dubbed over quietly. So now I upload and use the Youtube "audio swap" facility that has a lot of free to use tracks. I cant remember who its by sorry.

Thanks for the plenty of primer advice, I guess it needs to be regular coverage to, no white bits showing through !

Tonight's update

I have been trying to work out how to make the circular fan cover for the roof,

SDC16910.jpg

In the end I couldn't come up with a clever plan so had to resort to cutting and filling it out of a piece of 60thou plasticard. I marked it out, drilled holes, then opened them up with a square needle file :( an hour of filling later I had a grid pattern and I just needed to cut off the outside to make it circular. Then glue on. I must be mad ??

SDC16911.jpg

I did have plans to cut out under the grill but decided it was far to fragile to be self supporting as a grill so I guess I will cheat and paint it black between the vents ! Not sure it would have been good to have a big hole in the top if it ever got caught  running out in rain !

The only other thing happening is sanding and filling ! Every time I think I have got it right I give it a light dusting with primer and find a lump or hole i have missed !!! But there are less now than there was !

These last couple of shots have the OO Bachmann 25 riding piggy pack to answer a couple of people question as to just how big this is..

Hi John
If you don't mind me saying, the two side windscreens look a little narrow to me  .........but other than that , it looks spot on

Very nice; now it's close to visiting the paintshop how about some gunpowder vans, 16t minerals and a BR standard brakevan to go with it, should only take a couple of days.
