Only one thing I wasn't able to buy Precision Paints apparently don't take paint to shows, so I'll be looking for alternatives for SECR and GNR wagon colours.
Their website says you can order paint which they will take to a show, but they want at least a fortnight's notice. Mmmmmm. Sounds like they are not too keen to sell paint, because the carriage cost is £7.50 which, for a tinlet costing less than £5, is silly. Yes, I know the PO say they won't accept paint but I have had tinlets through the post several times. One wonders if the PO want our business!

I wonder what possible logic there is for a paint company not to take paints to a show where people who are likely to seek them out to buy paints are likely to be present in significant numbers.

Given the issues and costs of posting paint, this seems rather like the BR strategy for closing branch lines. “Nobody buys them so…”

Frankly, the PO is a spent force. Allowing private business to take the cream of the business left them with no room to make a profit. That’s perhaps politics, perhaps economics. Frankly I don’t care about the PO because there are alternatives, and I can use them.

getting decent paint, OTOH, is more challenging.

it was the Government of the day thats let private business take the cream of the business, and gave them free access to the network, The USO is only guarenteed for the next 3 years, once its in foreign hands, if that goes, see how much it will cost to post from one end of the country to the other, its not the likes of Amazon and DPD that deliver to rural area's, its RM , Cos they're cheaper.

I spoke to Chris at the show. He mentioned that he has recently taken over Mike Radford's "Electrifying Trains" etches and castings but they will require a large amount of time to sort into sets.
Regarding paint: Because of his tendon repairs to his Left hand, he cannot lift the racks which contain the various paints. For the same reason, he is only able to drive the car to shows rather than the van. That limits what he is able to take to shows naturally enough though also explains why specific paint requirements can be taken to shows given some notice. The good news is that Chris says that his hand is healing so sooner or later, normal show service will be resumed.

Thank you for the explanation, Arun. If this had been explained on the website, then there would have been greater understanding and patience.

Thank you Arun. I shall wonder no more.

An unusual day for me as I arrived at the show with more boxes - four - than I left with - which was none. In fact if it hadn't been for selling models which were better exchanged at the Show than run the Parcel Sorters' Assault Course, I'd likely have given it a miss this year.
The Bring 'n' Buy was very sparsely populated this year, unless all the bargains had been nabbed before I got there... :)

Kept an eye open for a SOO hat Jordan but didn't see you today. Yes, would agree the bring and buy was sparsely populated and I even wandered past several times during the day. I don't think all the bargains were snapped up early, more like there wasn't a huge amount of stock?

I didn't say I'd be underneath it.... ;) :))

Along with the sparse B'n'B stand, did I detect a fall in some R-T-R prices? Dapol 16t minerals at £35, vans at £40... even things like air-brake hoppers & tankers at £40/£50 or so if you looked carefully. Coaches too, Dapol NSE's at £125, apparently.
Maybe it depends what modellers are after, or has the market for some items reached saturation point, so dealers are struggling to clear stock?

First time at Kettering yesterday - good to catch up with @Jordan and @mickoo!

6:30am start to drive up, apart from the -1degree outside temp and some thick fog in places, roads we’re pretty dead at that time of day, and Tony B, belted out some decent numbers on Sounds Of The Sixties to pass the boredom of motorway driving.

I guess my GoG benchmark is Stafford, so thought the show was fairly good.

Footplate models had some decently priced stuff, Ellis Clark’s second hand stand didn’t seem as big as at Stafford, so there wasn’t the range of bargains previously experienced.

Dapol/Lionheart caused considerable pain to my wallet with brand new Mk1 coaches for £125 a piece. Too good to turn down.

Tower models didn’t have a huge stand either compared to other shows. And as others have said, the second hand stand was quite underwhelming.

Heljan prices seem to have flatlined - Hymeks £400 (both 1st and 2nd release), Westerns and the odd warship similar prices. Bearing in mind the flash sales from Rails, I think £400 is too much for a Hymek, and might signify why they don’t seem to shift these days.

Dapol Pill box brake vans were on offer for circa £40, but the BR Standard 20ton vans seem to hold their value circa £65.

Not a single Blue Heljan 33 on offer, which is what I was hoping to pick up - maybe next time. Roll on Kempton Park.

Cheers,

Stephen

A pleasant time spent, but apart from bumping into Josh (Easterner) I probably walked passed many of you without realising it. As I said in my last post I looked like about 50% of the gents there.
