On the rear end of one of the trailers I hauled to Italy and back had a metal plate that read in 1" high lettering "If you can read this prepare to meet they doom", whether anyone ever did I never felt it !

I certainly wouldn't look forward to maintaining the swinging arm and steering on that. Bad enough after a normal winter. Yes, I'm one of those strange folk that actually rebuilt Reliant Robins for fun (and a nice profit) when I was younger.

I’m much amused by the British Seagull engine on the back. I imagine the MoD assessors had trouble keeping straight faces.
more seriously, I understand that fibreglass is much disliked by the military, as if it contaminates wounds, it’s a bit difficult to deal with, pretty much x-Ray and visible light invisible. yuck.

I might be being unfair, but I’m struggling to take it seriously.
I think I’d prefer a BMW or URAL flat twin three wheeler with dog clutch drive to the sidecar wheel.

What a fascinating rabbit hole!
The name rang a distant bell but turned out to be rung by his father who invented the rotary ticket machine (the classic attire of the bus conductor) not through LJK’s motoring journalism profession.

Having 'used in anger,' the Setright machine [as an 'OPO' bus driver, I admit to being a tad nostalgic about it. Operable using one hand, the technique involving a flick of the thumb & fingers of [my] left hand.
I still have nightmares....
I first came across LJK Setright as a journalist in my teenage years...I had a 'subscription' to the US car mag, 'Road & Track'...which often had quite 'european' articles. [Subscriptions arrived when distant rellies demanded what a 13 year old wanted for Christmas? Early 1960's]
I enjoyed reading of his exploits....[the episode when he fitted a Porsche engine into a VW beetle especially, confounding the local police with it.]
As for mockery of the Reliant 3 wheeler?
Take a look at the past records of entries into the Motorcycling Club's three long distance classic reliability trials?
There is currently a seriously modified one in action.....The abilities of which would shame any Range Rover [and probably does, if my experience of Range Rovers is anything to go by?} {George Osborn, builder, if anyone know him? seriously good engineer...]
