Has anyone else seen or heard any announcements? I ask as I saw this on the Tower website

Class 60

I personally think it's an interesting choice by Heljan

and following on from my last post about surprise announcement I then went and found this

Class 40

Again, anyone heard of any details?

I had a chat with the Howes guy on the HJ stand about the 60. He said the project is in the research stage at the moment. So far they've gathered drawings from Brush and have access to current prototypes as and when needed. RE drive they are conscious of the see through grills at each end being directly above the bogies so are considering how best to power the loco. As far as liveries go they intention is to do unbranded and un numbered triple grey, DB red, and one other. I suggested Loadhaul but he thought bearing in mind there were less than 10 done it wouldn't be popular. He also said they produce their stuff in batches of 2000 and standard release liveries are usually a minimum of approximately 300. I finally asked whether the 60 was a test to see how more modern O gauge is received by the market, and whether it was a dead cert. The answer was yes it's definitely happening, and it wasn't a test. They believe it's an iconic loco and they don't anticipate any issues selling them. No release date set yet but bearing in mind the wagons, BG, GUV and 40 are scheduled for 2013, I would think the 60 will be 2014. HTH

Cheers

If my memory serves me right there are anything up to and including the figure of 11 loco's in traffic at any one time, all the others either stored unservicable or in warm storage (being frequently swopped around). EWS crews prefer them as they can pull more are more sure footed and don't look as if you should store your pitchfork in it when you don't need it.

a big conversation is this maybe a new thread is called for OBIWAN!!!!!!!!

(1948 nationalization) BR's inherited freight edict,In 2 words common user. All freight must be conveyed and cannot be refused, for a reasonable rate and punctually.in few words wagon load (abolished early 80's).

Beeching report, freight must at all times make money and all unprofitable flows should use alternatives modes of transport, roads. So all of the little and not so little wagon loads that kept the freight sectors of BR buoyant were effectively told charge or die.

Tory Government 1980's Starve the railways of investment Kill off the freight and give it to the roads and charge exorbitant prices for block trains. until privatization then sell it all and throw it up in the air and see how it lands.

BR did alright with what it had and what it was TOLD to do, I have said it time and time again if those idiots had given BR the money they have squandered on making a few rich people even richer think what could have happened. do you really think 66's would have appeared do you really think the design team would have made a loco that scares birds of crops NO

By the way no 60 but I might get another 40

Why? To debate the colour...? As 60 nor 66 were ever adorned in the Best Shade of Blue on the planet it's a moot point, isn't it..??:p
anyway, don't point that moot at me....

Back somewhere near the point of the OP, if HJ do bring out the 60 it really does open up the more recent UK scene to O Scale. More modern wagons would be needed, for sure!

Jordan leaving colour aside(got to sit down and get Sgt Marsa to get the smelling salts out) the class 60 beats the living crap out of the inferior machine that followed them built in Britain by British workers to run on a british railway none of you GMC rubbish should be here

Blimey Ian, I didn't realise you were that old mate ;)
They haven't been known as GMC since 1941. EMD more recently and, if you want to be bang up to date, Caterpillar Progress Rail Services (catchy huh?)

In terms of other points raised here, I agree that the 60 is iconic. I personally love 'em and look forward to getting the opportunity to own one in 7mm scale as well as supporting the Class 60 Preservation Group because of the current myopic approach taken by the NRM.

I wonder if 'The Territorial Army Centenary' might be a suitable candidate for Heljan. Recognising any licensing concerns, of course. I'll be doing mine in triple grey...

I want one (60) purely because I have a photo from the early 90's (1990's that is) of 60085 trundling through Bolton on a rake of 8 VAA vans (I think they're VAA). So that'll do for me. That's 8 of Heljan's new vans and one 60 to save up for :p

PS That's after I've saved up for a Heljan 31 and a DJH beginners 03 kit. At this rate I might have to sell the wife  That'll be one of the vans taken care of then :p

The Class 60's were made at Procor in Wakefield :) (well the body's were) & shipped to Loughborough to be fitted out by Brush (my dad was a draughtsman at Procor)

I like em too BTW, although I won't be getting this particular Heljan though, as they don't fit in with my railway.......the real ones come past the bottom of my garden though:cool: , they work more or less the only freight we get (weekday nights at around 23.30) :)

Danish! so what they also have great bacon. There is a bit of a difference between a £500 model and a £1,000,000.00 big boys toy. I don't notice any British manufacturer stepping up to the plate, oh that's right there aren't any left, by the way 60 may not have carried blue but then neither did 58's and they were also classic traction
