Hi G uys,

in conversation with somebody at the North Wales & West Cheshire meeting yesterday, I was told that he had had an order to build an MMP Class 58 cancelled because Heljan were planning to bring one out within the next eighteen months - we had all better start saving now

Hi Mike

I find that hard to believe Mike  , I would have thought that with all the propsed 7mm stuff, it will be a long while before more releases  , I would also have thought a Modernisation Plan diesel would be a far more popular choice..........I doubt there will be many takers on here I'm afraid :( .

Cheers Phill

But there are no R&D costs as they have done already. it still surprises me that they haven't done a Western, given the research they have done already.
I had a Mk1 on the bench yesterday :headbang: what a wasted opportunity.

Trouble is, since when did what we want have any bearing on what manufacturers provide..?? :headbang: Not to mention all the duplication going on, with umpteen varieties of 20s 37s 33s 26s 55s coming out... it's getting almost as bad as 1979/80 and all the duplication that happened in 4mm then.
Count me out for a 58, too... I still can't quite believe they've been withdrawn already- seems like only yesterday they were coming in!!

Given the hash they made of the 4mm Western, and also the 7mm Mk1 coach, maybe we should be grateful they haven't done a Western...?!?? :shit: :|

The Western wasn't that bad Jordan, & would be a welcome addition to the 7mm range, even if it was the same as the 4mm version with a few mods we would have a very nice loco .

Hi Phil,

you mean like a 22? I would not say no one of those.

Anything with a long lifespan that got about a few regions would be a better idea for both Heljan & us I would have thought  .........I would buy a 22 though if they made one

I believe the oddness of the heljan mk1 is due to difficulties of releasing from the mould, although if Bachmann can do it..... either way both the JLTRT and MMP are better models and cheaper as well, and if time is an issue the JLTRT can be build from the box in a couple of weeks. I wouldnt touch a Heljan Mk1 with a barge pole especially now I have seen one up close and personal.
One of the best RTR models in 7mm is the Lionheart pannier http://www.lionhearttrains.com/ and the mineral wagons look the part as well

Hi Phil,

I think that the only contender left in the first generation/long life span catagory is the 31 and I'm sure that most of us could do with one (or two) of those.

Yes a 31 would be useful  , as would a 25 or a Peak IMO ;)

I think that most mainline MMP kits are being revised and there are non available at the moment but they are due for re-release shortly - plus a number of new loco and wagon kits.

DJH - didn't like their Deltic, so I'll wait for the MMP one.

Jordan - Skytrex is a bit akin to doing your 22 all over again isn't it?
