Hello from the Valleys

Maybe, but it all works well because what you see immediately is Cymmer Viaduct - the reduced length works too.
I've been collecting images of the viaduct for a while now (the remaining derelict structure is a sight I have not yet seen for myself), but detail views of the original deck and construction above are few and far between.
Neither have I yet found any drawings.
I’ve not found any drawings either which whilst annoying makes the build more challenging. I too hadn’t found any images of the deck. That was until just after I’d built it and then found some! Picture below along with some from a recent visit.

It’s not a prototype I’m familiar with but I just have to say how much I like this and what a consistent and satisfying layout it looks to be. There’s great use of today’s excellent RTR together with a proper “goes from here to there” layout, and the scenery and structures are subtle and well observed. How long has it taken you to get this far?
Thanks Chris, appreciate your comments. It’s not a very well documented location to be honest despite how interesting it is. There’s a couple of good books, one being Railways and Industry in the Tondu Valleys. During the build there’s also been some fantastic colour images on a Facebook group from late 50’s until its closure in 1970. These have really helped especially with the construction of buildings.
I started baseboard construction in February 22 and really only have October-March to work(and play!!)

Excellent progress! I was going to ask about the garage insulation but I think you’ve answered my question…
It’s not a particularly insulated garage tbh. It’s a single brick construction and I’ve lined the inside walls with plasterboard and some loft insulation above ceiling boards. I changed the up and over garage door with a couple of wooden doors which now don’t close properly It’s pretty Baltic in there sometimes. A little oil filled rad helps.

That is a fantastic work on the viaduct.

Can you do Walnut Tree viaduct for me in 7mm scale?

Seriously, it never occured to me that I could make a shortened version, so your approach has opened up a whole new raft of possibilities.

Yet I'm quite happy to live with sharper than real curves, or trains considerably shorter than the prototype!

Where is the "slip in a real photo to enhance the model" forum bobby? No doubt Jordan (@Jordan) shall be along soon
But in this case, it does... ;) well I think so anyway :p

The photo I was going to comment on is this one - I think it's a World First for WT...

Yes folks - the first time, that I know of anyway, that a photo of a rolling pin has appeared on WT!! And being used as a modelling tool as well - at least I hope so.... ;) :D. You hadn't spent too long in the garage had you??

I’d love to do Walnut Tree. It’d need to be in 4mm for me though with the space I have. I think if the structure is somewhat unique then even if you have to make some compromises it’s still capturing the essence of it. It’s a great hobby where you can either go totally prototypical or use plenty of artistic licence and achieve very similar results.
Are you going to have a go at building it?
I’ll do commission work! Only kidding, my viaduct took me to the point of wanting to can the hobby

. I feel like I should be proud of achieving ‘a first’ especially as a newby . I actually used it to flatten out sheets of DAS ahead of laying on the bridge abutments. It worked a treat

I'd have to build the railway to fit it, although the scenic section would only need to be from the north entrance to the Garth tunnel and to the other end of the very truncated viaduct which would be running into the cutting on the Ty Rhiw side of the valley.

The spans would need to reduce from seven to three or four, and it would have to be on a continuous curve.

Maybe in my next life!
