It's surprising how the dust shows

Very nice John , i also model the LNWR . Such a fantastic livery on the coaches but the black locos show every speck of dust especially in sunlight

Hi John , does your Special tank have a builders plate , if so where is it . I have nearly finished my ST but cannot find a photo that shows where the plate goes .

The LNWR didn't have loco builders plates. The numberplates give the date and place "Crewe". In fact LNWR carriages and wagons also didn't have builders plates - and when the LMS added them to carriages and wagons they retained the correct building date - "Built LMS 1893" sort of thing!

Shed plates were enameled and similar to the later cast iron ones, fitted on the back of the cab roof.

Having written that about shed plates, maybe a bit more would be of interest. LNWR shed plates were black on white and riveted to a bracket which had a tongue at the back looking downwards. On the back of the cab roof was riveted a cast iron holder with a slot. The shed plates just hooked into the slot. This picture is borrowed from an auction site.

The numberplates only had the build dates and Crewe Works on them in the Whale/Cooke era, in Webb's day it was 'Crewe Works' only. The nameplates had the build date and Crewe Works on them throughout the Company's existence.

What if its an open cab which both John and myself have ?

Sorry to be pedantic Mike but 'spectacle plate' in Crewespeak refers to the plate holding up the ends of the slidebars between the frames......ref 'British Locomotives' by C J Bowen Cooke.
