Just Like The Real Thing Class 25

Hi Just a few pics of the Class 25 Im building (not really WR or Hydraulic but thought it might be of interest) got the wheels from PR model railway products 3ft 9inch decided on these instead of Slaters ones so I wouldnt have to use pick ups Ive soldered a wire to each bearing so it will be like a "live" chassis on a brass loco and ill put the wheels on the opposite way on the other bogie :scratch: :scratch: seems to work on other locos ive made, the motors are Buhler twin shafted ones with a small flywheel. note on the body side grille how I have cut the resin away leaving only the frame, glued a square of plasticard behind this then stuck the etched grille on think it looks much better, the insructions tell you to complete and paint the loco and then glue the grille on??? note ive also ignored the instructions about glazing the loco before painting it, think from what ive heard one or two others have done the same. Checked that the cabs will go in before I did this and they do so glazing will be as normal and be about the last job. Otherwise great kit (should be for money :lol: ) everthing fits together great no messing about filling and filing bits etc Ross...

Dont worry Ross, it doesnt have to be hydraulic :lol:
I do find the instructions on the brief side and some of the processes do seem in a funny order :scratch: I would much rather fit the glazing after painting so I think that is a good move. What colour is it going to be?

Hi :wave: Its going to be blue but sorry but im gonna disappoint you all because it wont be staying in the Western Region for very long Its going be allocated to Eastfield (Scotland) and be running on Ian Futers's latest creation (not sure which one it is could be Victoria Park???) just thought everyone might find the build intersting.. Yeah were not happy with that . Still at least he is getting the Hydraulic fever with that EXELLENT class 22 and now his class 14. He might start to see the light :lol:

But as I keep having to point out... if I sold all my US stuff I'd still barely get enough readies to buy ONE JLTRT kit and all the bits wot make it go...

Anyway with you lot flooding this Forum with pictures of such fantastic model Westerns ( ) why would you want me lowering the standards with any attempt I ever made...?!?!

If you must know my next loco is going to be a conversion of a GP38-2 to a GP40...

You could put your class 14 & class 22 builds on here Jordan ,there is a lot more skill in putting those two together into a good model (which you have done )than there is in building the modern JLTRT type kit IMO.Not that there is anything wrong with JLTRT builds of course, but there is a place for both . It would be great to see the construction of 'Wythin Reach' too before RMweb3 disappears . I intend doing the same with my layout & some of my workbench bodgings . I would rather see my stuff on here than in some blog that hardly anybody looks at & that you get little or no feedback from.

I would concur with Phill. Making something out of the Steve Beattie kit takes a lot more effort and skill on the builders part than a JLTRT kit. Over the last twenty odd years I have build some rough old kits so I know what you went through, lets be honest my Western build is just a tarting up job

I would concur with Phill. Making something out of the Steve Beattie kit takes a lot more effort and skill on the builders part than a JLTRT kit. Over the last twenty odd years I have build some rough old kits so I know what you went through, lets be honest my Western build is just a tarting up job

I wished I had the skill and confidence to purchase a JLTRT kit and put it together the only medium I can get to grip with is plasticard and I am a little put off with making a balls of putting it together , I once had an airfix model of the Bismark that when I assembled it looked more like the cutty sark .

Ian, the JLTRT kits are very straight forward , just take your time, make sure that everything lines up correctly before using the glue. I have never used resin before so i decided to use the recommended glue off of the JLTRT stand. It works, so no problems there The down side is the price :cry: but try one you wont be diss appointed

Hi Ian :wave: , you could also build some cheaper rolling stock kits, then you don't have all that pressure of knowing the kit cost a small fortune if it's not perfect & after one or two of those you might feel a bit more confident about tackling a loco kit

Hi everyone! strange you ask Jordan because its where Ive been for the last week as Id promised Ian i'd have it up and running for trials at York MRS ths weekend.. Chassis is finished (well a few bits need picking out in thier respective colours, orange, white, yellow etc etc) body is albeit done and in primer... nothing to be scared of at all with these kits they go together pretty easily and most things fit etc (still got sore fingers this weekend though) Ross..   :wave:

Yes, they are certainly good quality kits... I wonder if it's ever occurred to Mr Waterman that if they dropped the price they might sell more of them, thereby still making a profit..?!? :scratch:
