I'm just catching up with this and was interested to read the temperatures expected for vulcanised rubber moulds. Providing your mould maker is aware much lower temperatures can be used, but for longer times. I've had no problem with soft soldered patterns in vulcanised moulds, just using solder at or over 180 degrees C.

Steph, that is very interesting, I was not aware that vulcanised moulds could be made at temperatures that low. My experience of vulcanised moulds was many years ago and using a big old heated press that melted and crushed all but the toughest masters. I was also emphasising the difference between the two processes and perhaps over exaggerated the difference a bit. However you still can't make a vulcanised mould from a styrene pattern, a wax one, a resin one or a 3D print, which you can with cold cure moulds.

Stoke5D/Andrew, thanks for the S&D chair picture, that confirms their similarity to MSWJR, SECR and LSWR chairs.

I use 190 degree soft solder for most things and Adrian Swain's vulcanised moulds never damaged them. Beechcast on the other hand destroyed several patterns in their vulcaniser. Even then, the rubber seems to have started to cure and hold the parts in place long enough for the mould and castings to be fine and only when the patterns are returned (sometimes years later) have I discovered them in several pieces.

In my opinion its marginal and I now specify RTV!

Are the resin G3 chairs for sale and are they cast with all of the bolts? I could do with 24 for a small display track that I'm working on at the moment.
