The first delivery has arrived.

Awful colours. I can only assume these were used in some sort of shunting puzzle. They are all Three Aitch models with solid buffers and plastic wheels. They also have limited brake detail, with no rod connecting both brake sides. Over time I'll replace the buffers, wheels and see what I can do with the underframe details.

First up will be getting rid of that paint. Would Dettol work on this type of plastic?

Hi Steve, ii would agree with Jordan ,that it would be easier to weather them than remove the paint. However if you desperately need to get rid of the paint then i will recommend ModelStrip. Its a paste that you put on using a knife , then wrap in cling film and after the time it states wash off using a toothbrush. This fetches off the paint but doesnt affect the plastic.

The paint doesn't look too bad, so I would lightly prime and respray them.

I rather like your collection of colours, it reminds me of when Graham Farish first introduced all their N gauge wagons, as I recall they were unlettered and issued in a similar variety of shades to suggest different companies.

I also think the 3H 3 plank is a very nice piece of moulding work, characterful with pleasantly "relaxed" timberwork

I like the toy bucket The paint looks ok, avoid stripping them if at all possible as it can just make a mess of the whole thing.

I would prime & paint em(no stripping unless absolutely necessary & I would probably keep the buffers too) , replace the wheels & add transfers .

The trouble with replacing too many things is can end up costing more than a kit if your not careful

Thanks all for the advice. I was half expecting someone to say "They're my old wagons!" as I bought them off ebay at the weekend.

The paint application is quite well done so maybe it would be OK to keep it and prime over it, as you say. There's no plank details on the inside – is this normal? At this scale I would have expected it. They seem to be quite old as the glue has become quite brittle and a buffer has already fallen off.

One question; are the chains meant to touch the floor? They seem a little low to me.

No they shouldnt Steve, Premier Components do nice packs of 3 links with hooks at reasonable cost

The couplings look a little stretched but no they shouldnt touch the sleepers. With a little careful surgery you should be able to sort those out.

Sounds like you at going to need to replace the buffers if they are breaking off. They look like good wagons though otherwise so are a good project to detail up.

Don't be disheartened. You'll be able to make a good job of those I'm sure.

And those for the vote of confidence Phil! I do think they are quite nice to look at but I've no idea what prototype they are based on, maybe RCH?

Just thinking about those couplings, they may be extended like they are to allow the wagons to go around tight curves without fouling the buffers. Or maybe not...

RCH should do you. Parkside supply spares.

Another small photo call update on new stock.

The Skytrex wagons and vans are quite nice, but I'm looking forward to building some brass kits when I've mastered the art of soldering. I should start by mastering the art of getting out of the cupboard and plugging it in first, I suppose!

Talking of soldering, the Hymek conversion kit's soldering could best be compared to my two-year-old's attempt and crayoning... It would be best to start again I think, unless this chap was trying to add a bit of weight for traction?

A couple wagons still to come plus an 02 shunter. This bug is LETHAL!

I forgot to add, the conversion kit (this is the original RJH version) didn't come with any instructions. Does anyone have any or know where I can get some? I've tried looking with a couple search engines but nothing turns up. I've found a couple blog-type guides but these don't show the whole procedure or cover all the parts in the box.

Just a quick question. If you dont mind me asking, How much did you pay for the Suncole wagon ?. Only asking because these are so overpriced on eBay, but £15 each at the shows
