I'm going to call them done....for now. This week the locos gained (detachable for paint) handrails, holes for lubricators, cab floor and crew. There were a lot of behind the scenes stuff as well, like the addition of pick-ups. A week with lots of bit-sy jobs.

I hope Mick D will be back from his trainspotting trip in the USA next week and can sort me out with some 3D printed chimneys, domes, smokebox doors and toolboxes. I also need some etched brass window frames. Fraser B is on holiday in Europe at the moment, so I'll have to wait until he gets home to the Southern Hemisphere to make me some brass safety valve plinths. I also discovered (thanks to Paul W) that YouChoos have some rather good upgraded speakers in their Lurve range that are very reasonably priced and much better than the Sugarcube speakers that come standard on ESU Loksound V5s.

It has been a long time since I posted here. I got to the stage where I was waiting for safety valve plinths from Australia (thanks Fraser) and window frame etches from Mick Davies, and so I decided it was best use of the time if the locos went out for paint. Anyway 9 months later (some painters are quicker than others) here they are again on my workbench assembled. I had to cut out all the window frames, as I'd forgotten all about them in the meantime! I also had to finish the safety valves, and do one or two minor jobs that I usually do pre paint.

Mick Davies printed me some nice chimneys, domes and smokebox doors.

I assembled the chassis first, very carefully, to get a very easy running mechanism (DCC makes any mechanical issues worse, and running them to death to clear binding issues doesn't work for me either.) Ian had slightly chemically blackened the rods to tone them down a bit.

The bodies were then slowly and methodically assembled, trying not to get the parts mixed up or scratched.

So there they are, the decoders need a bit of a set up session to sync the chuffs, but otherwise they're completed. Ian Rathbone did the paint beautifully, and hopefully he'll take some better pics when they're back with him en-route to the new owner.

I am always amazed by how simple you make things sound and also how quickly you build the locos. Lovely work.
