Night Mail colourised

I have just watched this colourised version of Night Mail.

The action sequences are real. I read somewhere, a cameraman was nearly decapitated. The whole film still works for me, even though I've watched through the original eight or ten times.

I wouldn't want to lose the original, but I saw more detail in the colour version, and the characters seemed to be brought to life. Everything seems more real. I think, a good thing from modern technology.

Viewing for tonight - with an open mind.

I guess we should be thankful that Hollywood didn't get hold of it (although the M.I.B. version could have been fun......):

Just watched Night Mail, the colour brings something new to the film but.... Oh, the subtitles, they are something else, pure AI rubbish, Carnforth is 'Carrefour' or Holyhead being 'Ollie Hayes' and dozens of other faux pas....

I couldn't see any subtitles - then realised there is a Youtube system setting option and mine was set to OFF.

So these subtitles are not on the original work, but generated by software provided by Youtube, which relies entirely on machine interpretation of voices on the original soundtrack.

I have returned the setting to OFF and I will be leaving it OFF.......

we use Teams extensively at work and the transcription does not cope with jargon well at all, and struggles a bit with our French head of sales & marketing. Still, it can be quite amusing...

Thank goodness for the off button, something I didn't know was there.

Dave.
