Finally, the SK gets pipework. Although the filler pipes are a right royal pain in the wotsit to make up, I like the way they add a little individuality to a coach.
The SK has the bogs at one end, so the non-filler end is treated like the van end of a brake coach. In reality, the top of the handrail is attached to the roof by a bracket. To allow the roof to be removed, the model version clips into a hole.
The lav end is more interesting. The BSKs and the CK had the filler cap nearer the end of the coach, so the point where the handrail/pipe is clipped in can actually be the cap itself. In this case, I’ve had to use brass tube for the end rail/pipe to clip into. Easy-Build provide a load of little etched brass loops for the upper brackets, but they’ve come in handy here for the roof clips as well. I also decided the plastic moulded brackets were unusable unless I let the rail/pipe almost touch the coach ends. I pinged them off with a sharp blade, and drilled a hole to take etched loops. A much better solution, I think.
Now, just the splash gutters and the end pipes to do. Then I think I should extract all the roofs and respray them. Ho hum.
