Both BSKs now suitably adorned. Filler pipes, overflow pipes and splash gutters. With the various mods being done to the roofs, I am beginning to think they need to be taken off and resprayed, perhaps with a little more weathering. Still pondering that, as it feels like an enormous step backwards.*

Finally, the SK gets pipework. Although the filler pipes are a right royal pain in the wotsit to make up, I like the way they add a little individuality to a coach.

The SK has the bogs at one end, so the non-filler end is treated like the van end of a brake coach. In reality, the top of the handrail is attached to the roof by a bracket. To allow the roof to be removed, the model version clips into a hole.

The lav end is more interesting. The BSKs and the CK had the filler cap nearer the end of the coach, so the point where the handrail/pipe is clipped in can actually be the cap itself. In this case, I’ve had to use brass tube for the end rail/pipe to clip into. Easy-Build provide a load of little etched brass loops for the upper brackets, but they’ve come in handy here for the roof clips as well. I also decided the plastic moulded brackets were unusable unless I let the rail/pipe almost touch the coach ends. I pinged them off with a sharp blade, and drilled a hole to take etched loops. A much better solution, I think.

Now, just the splash gutters and the end pipes to do. Then I think I should extract all the roofs and respray them. Ho hum.

All done bar the repainting. The tube I had in stock is a bit chunkier than I’d like. Remind me to stock up on thin walled brass tube of 0.7mm ID next time I’m at a show, please.

I have ten things on my snagging list, and only one has been crossed out. I think I’ll need to work through that, then.

Right, all the snagging list items are crossed off, so I think these are done. I’ll do a final inspection shortly, as I think there are some paint issues on the roofs. Incidentally, I decided to brush paint the roofs. I have a slight cold, so wearing a mask for spraying didn’t seem a clever idea. I also felt brush marks would give some texture to what had ended up initially as rather flat roofs.

I’ll leave the gallery shots until these are delivered. I hope they will be run round on a test track at the upcoming S7 meeting, so that might be an easier place to take some photos as a train. All I can manage on my bench is one or two at a time.

I’m not sure I have any final thoughts to give. This has been my first close encounter with Easy-Build kits, and I’m not unhappy. I can see things I would do better, things I might swap out, things I might not do again. The end result looks pretty good to me, and I hope the client will be happy with them, too.
