Over a year since I updated this thread, so apologies for the bump. No progress to report until now, as other interests (Dutch and American HO, and UK outline N) have taken my attention, but last night in a fit of renewed enthusiasm I converted a Class 105 to EM using the Branchlines replacement wheels. A Polthorpe micro may still be on the cards.

Green SYP (I'll need to sort that!) 31 and a blue 03 acquired today, as well as a sound chip for the 105.

The 31 has a SWD sound chip fitted but doesn't work at all on DCC. It's not knackered, since it runs (and sounds) on DC. Any suggestions?

Both locos will need converting to EM. For the 03 I'm contemplating pulling the wheels out since they seem pretty good. Has anyone tried it, and what did you do with the drive crank, since it seems to be screwed in?

Not sure about the 31, any suggestions?

31 chip sorted, turns out it was not running on address 03 but on the four digit loco number, which my wee DCC test set wasn't able to read, plugged in the main set and sorted.

I've found a sound chip for the 03 for sale, has anyone done one before? Not much room, but a sugar cube speaker might work behind the radiator grill.

Not yet tried to widen the wheels, watch this space.

A moment of pleasing serendipity - flipping through the Middleton Press, Branchlines around Wroxham and my eye alights on the picture of tankers being loaded at Coltishall which I have alluded to before. The class 31 pictured turns out to be none other than D5657, which by happy accident is the very loco I acquired at the weekend! Full yellow ends beckon.
