Morning all,

Once again, I must thank everyone for the kind words offered. Thank you. It's an early start today as I'm due to return from a short holiday with the family and I find myself in the midst of a spot of "calm before the storm"..........in other words, I'm the only one up.

Earlier, I gave an insight into the new winter layout project. Either a 1950s East Anglian excursion or a pre-WW1 SE&CR adventure. A third option has now hove into view.

I generally tend to build layouts around either a loco or a building. Sheep Lane perhaps was an exception and was more something to get the ball rolling, to see if I really could finish a layout. That said, the main loco was the Bachmann 3F.

Mutton, the next layout, came about due to the "need" for a home for the Adams Radials.

Bleat Wharf merely expanded on Sheep Lane but a couple of buildings kickstarted that particular project. Bachmann's lovely Shillingstone Parcels office and their Great Central goods shed in particular provided two, small, characterful buildings with fitted in with my small, low building philosophy.

Sheep Dip was built around both a loco , the Hornby Peckett and buildings, the Bachmann narrow gauge slate buildings.

Ewe certainly provides a nice home for the J70s but actually started out as Woolley, a home for my J15s ( and the occasional Sentinel ) inspired by this lovely Dr Ian Allen photo.........

Flockfield is the working title for the Mid-Suffolk inspired BLT where the J15s, an occasion N7 and most definitely the forthcoming Accurascale J67/68/69s will frolic.

Lambsdown is the working title for the SE&CR BLT and is much inspired by Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey and anothe "need", this time to provide a home for the delightful Wainwright liveried SE&CR P Class and their sole Terrier, 751.

But what to do with this..........? ( yes, it's on it's way..)

WEB 230804 BACHMANN SCENECRAFT 44-170Z_4.jpg

Do we see a plan formulating for a small, slightly run down goods depot visited by Beattie Well tanks and assorted vans............?

A bucolic little backwater with an eclectic cluster of assorted small buildings.............

Mmmmmmm

Morning Rob

Great to see you back on WT. I'm looking forward to seeing where your model-making leads you.

Mike

Morning Mike. Thanks.

You and me both as it happens !

To expand on Lambsdown, as I say it's inspired by Leysdown ( I'm unable to credit the original photographer )

And this is the Terrier. 751 was actually purchased by the SE&CR for the Sheppey Light Railway.

And other examples of available motive power.....yes, the D class is entirely unsuitable.

I intend to use Hattons generic but undeniably handsome six wheelers, seen here posed on Bleat Wharf.

Flockfield will utilise same but in pre-war L&NER livery with the LNER removed and extra 'E's. added to the numbers. I should also remove the numbers from the doors, but rather like them so they'll remain.....

As ever, I hope to capture the 'feel' of the inspiration in each case...

Living, as I do, not a million miles from the Isle of Sheppey, I’ve always had a bit of an interest in the history of the area.

Back in the day the place had a major presence from the Royal Navy at Sheerness, and was one of the birthplaces of Britain's naval aviation. A Victorian entrepreneur also tried - and failed - to make Leysdown into a major cross-Channel port, fed by a railway.

Nowadays the island is home to run down seaside towns, former naval dockyards and a prison.

I shall follow developments at Lambsdown with interest.

And the amazing Elmley nature reserve of course. Beautiful (and bleak, depending on the weather).

Thanks, Jordan.

Good to see you. Yes, Pencarrot makes rude remarks about the J70s.

But that's nothing compared to what he had to say about this little chap...........

After a bit of work it should appear on Ewe at some point.

Rob

Nice to see you back Rob, see, I told you that you, and your modelling, were missed.

Enjoyed driving and apres driving at the Wells show. Very confusing having locos that looked exactly like brake vans or garden sheds. They did however run impeccably.

Carry on....

Crickey Rob, that is an early start....!
Julian

Morning Julian,

Yes, had s couple of those whilst away. Now back from 'somewhere in France'.

Main order of the day....er week really, is to now start prepping Bleat Wharf so a bit of moving layouts around, hopefully this afternoon. Ewe to Room of Doom, Bleat to garage.

There may however be a diversion. Today may well see a delivery from Kernow Models. If so, I'll post some images of the eagerly awaited goods shed.

Hi Rob,

Did you receive anything from Kernow?

Just curious to know if your modelling activities were curtailed by the delivery.

Hi Phil.

Oh....yep. A rather big box with a few buildings, including Kernow's very own, rather nice, L&SWR goods shed. It's a real corker and there is a very strong temptation to build a goods only layout around it.

A reminder then of the current layout of the Room of Doom.

This is the one side showing Sheep Dip below Bleat Wharf with The Desk of Doing in the centre.

20220514_151534-02.jpeg

This is set to change. There will be a new desk and in its place there will be shelving added along there two walls upon which two layouts will sit at approximately 140cm, so just on shoulderish level.
