Tarring Neville and Littledene

The inspection saloon is a London Road Models kit. It's a nice kit to build and the verandas are a separate part (with many parts) to add after painting which is helpful. There is one preserved at the KESR although I believe its needing a lot of work.

Hi Andy,
You should be happy with Littledene, it does look really good. Nice to see the Inspection Saloon and looking forward to it being painted. I have one lurking in the unbuilt kit store as I’m sure the Colonel could have been tempted for Ruyton.

The whole layout is looking terrific. Do you have anything planned for this end of the country? Frustratingly I’m in Manchester the week before for work but won’t make it that far for the Christmas show.

Littledene's layout sign has needed a bit of out the box thinking. I didn't want to paint the name onto the lighting facia and a station sign would has been a bit large and overpowering on a 8ft layout. My partner came up with the idea of it just being the Parish/Hamlet notice board. An online search came up with a nice looking one which Littledene's is based on.


The LNWR Inspectors saloon has received OVLR livery and is just needing some glazing adding.


And the other week my nameplates arrived for the OVLR fleet.

Really like the notice board. What a creative and unique idea, and beautifully executed.

Good to see the fleet as well. Of course i'm very taken with the Manning Wardle, Hunslet, and KESR 2-4-0, but the diesels are also surprisingly charming. Top stuff

Well I think I have recovered from last weekend! Had a great time taking Littledene on its first outing to the Manchester Centenary show. The layout was well received and we had lots of interesting chats with visitors over the weekend. It seemed to convince a few people that there really was a Ouse Valley Light Railway.



A friend brought along a loco (BCR Carlisle) I had built him which although it was a long way from home didn't really look out of place. I'll have to keep an eye out for a kit.

That looks right at home. I’d love to have a Carlisle or Ilfracombe Goods to represent the larger end of the light railway spectrum.

Yeah I have thought about a Ilfracombe Goods too. The Col had a few at different railways. I want to get the other few locos and a couple of coaches finished before I start adding to the pile again.

Slowly working through a few bits for Littledene. Another D&S LDCR 6 wheel brake 3rd, a Prickley Pear Products SER 12ft ballast wagon and a couple of MR/LMS vans from Cambrian and Slaters.

I think that's it for coaches and wagons for the time being. I have a couple of locos to finish for Littledene and then I really should crack on with my 009 chalk pit layout.

The LDCR coach is nearly finished. The door handles and handrails need picking out and is awaiting the next weathering session.


I have also put together and painted in the last week or so a Pre war Sentinel from an RT Models kits. I have a bit of a thing for Sentinels. There are 6 on Tarring Neville with another Post war one being built at the minute. The Pre war one though is for Littledene. I still need to lightly weather it and add crew but i'm pleased how the lining has come out.

Hi Andy, like the railway a lot, the simple backscene works well and the trees/bushes join it all up, My wife is asking what did you use for the trees and bushes as we want to do the same on Wharfeside, the bushes look so full and dense and that's what she wants to hide the join between land and sky.

Hi Dave, Glad you like it. The trees and bushes are mostly seafoam with woodland scenics foliage add. Behind the bushes I did paint some dark greens to try and add a bit of depth to them.
