Looking good Steve. Well done for keeping this thread alive - I promise I will contribute with my challenge entry after Warley.
Todays diversion away from the bench was a cracking day out with Simon and co. A stomp with the dogs exploring the old Fussels iron works at Mells followed by sunday lunch and ale - marvelous!

Tiny amounts of progress and a slight change in direction - I'm now trying to do the planking and see if it turns out OK before investing time in doing the roof. The planks are 60 x 10 thou Evergreen strip, cut to length and glued into position, the Mk1 eyeball being the fall back as I struggled to make a jig that would hold the planks into position for gluing - that and a slight bow on some of the strips has made it a bit of a bugger of a job - and thats the easy side done! On the positive, I can use the rear planks to determine the positioning of those on the side.

I have been intrigued by Cookies efforts so I banged this down from full-size View attachment 15272

For comparison
Small 1/32 signal box (scale 15ft length - yay the plates have arrived as well)
4mm mineral wagon
2mm signal box scale 15 ft in length

Thats looks really interesting. Julia Adams (Missy) has done some fabulous stuff with laser cut wood (ply/mdf?) in 2mm. Why not cut the other sides out and stick them together. If its a standard GWR box then I have some etched windows you could have.

it is 2mm mdc, which is a bit thick, obviously the windows will recessed by a scale ft, high quality card on an mdf core is probably better. I can laser self adhesive labels which would probably work for the windows, but im talking myself into a hole now :p

Oh yes you have!

Now, thinking about roof tiles.....

Can you get reasonably thin self-adhesive card - or reasonably thick self-adhesive paper suitable for roof tiles.

Can you laser cut them in double rows, the first of which has individual slates, the second of which is unbroken.

And can you run off 2 million or so:)

Cheers

And in .75 card.
One of the problems at this size is that the focus of the laser becomes critical, and it wasnt spot on for this, removing some of the unnecessary lines for the window ledge would eliminate the charring, but it is certainly possible Mr Cook, and you get the correct closers as well ;)

Looking forward to that Jerry, appreciate you have more important things to be doing right now :)

I have been intrigued by Cookies efforts so I banged this down from full-size...
I have a love / hate relationship with the fact that you can just do that :)) Top effort though and food for thought (especially seeing it in card), tiny after G1 isn't it! Just keep digging / talking and making that hole bigger.... ;)

Where's the best place to find out a bit more on Missy's work Jerry? That Guv bloke has piqued my interest now...

Ta. Hinges are on the inside of the doors, key hole too small, but I'll have a bash at door knobs for you Rob :D

It would be best done as an etch so that you just fold the corners and make the join at the back under the chimney stack, but with some experimentation you could get pretty decent results with the laser. I must admit there is a certain something to it

Cheers Guv, sounds like a hint of buckling there - haven't you got a Hymek already....:p

Why not do a little and large version of your signal box diorama, it would make a great comparison piece :)

I couldnt see a drop in wheelset for the Hymek.....

No the Hymeks, in common with other Dapol diesels, are split axle and pickup off the pinpoints. The wheels need to be dropped out and turned down - the Association offers this service. The result is very nice I've done a couple and have a third in stock for another day.
You know you want to.....you can give it a run on Tucking Mill, hauling Cookies wagons;)
