4mm Wharfeside, a lifetime's project

I suggested today to the nice lady in the Warhammer shop in Canterbury that they did some kind of conversion chart from “ethurial spleen gore” to “signal red NER 1922” for example. She didn’t get it. She probably has no idea how many chuffer nutters there are in this country.

In any case, I purchased “Morgnast bone” which I hope will pass for GW coach cream, “Thondia brown”, likewise, chocolate, and “Corvus black” which I’m assured is a very very dark grey, but not black. I’m dubious, crows (except hooded) aren’t grey…. Anyway, we shall see.

Last night's guest loco on Wharfeside was another G&SW escapee which clearly took a wrong turn leaving Carlisle. Seems to happen surprisingly regularly when I'm in Wharfedale for some reason

Hurlford's 40661 (with typical, if relatively understated 67B crew embellishments) was returning with new improved pickups - a transformation to its haulage ability through reduced drag.

Couple of odds and ends to finish, not least a front coupling, and I may swap the gearbox for something a tad slower in the new year.

Thanks again to Dave for both advice (this uses your bogie mounting arrangement as per the B1 thread on here - works beautifully) and the "running rights".

Two liquified ammonia tanks have been completed this week and have been running on the Alloa layout at ModelRail Scotland today.

Ammonia tanks with transfers.JPG

Tanks are scratchbuilt using Plastruct tubes and ends, my own castings for the saddles, walkways, manholes and end bolsters, ladders etched by PPD and the chassis are Dapol. The chassis were temporary in case someone did a suitable etched one one day but now they look good enough for layout wagons so they might stay. CCT kindly did the transfers to suit both 1950s liveries and one can actually read the hazard boards and works plates. Two down ten more to go, two of those are in the paintshop and another two are having the tie rods fitted.
Pictured before weathering.

Ammonia tanks weathered and another four painted ready for the transfers.

The quick weathering and OO wheelsets was for the Glasgow show so now the walkway and ladders, which can be removed so I can do the weathering a bit better before final fitting, the ladders clip into the solebar so just a touch of Cyano should do it.
Just another six to go.

With the weather the way it is today I was looking for something to do so, out with the transfers again and did another seven Ammonia tanks.
Still to do the wagon chassis with new tie rods and warning boards but as the wagons come apart with just a few screws it's easy to disassemble them. The last three WD tanks haven't got the walkway and ladders fitted yet as they were only painted yesterday and I didn't want to handle them too much.
Now only three more to go.

A photo of a pannier tank!!! Something you wish to tell us???

cheers
Yes Ian but it was the wagons I was interested in, the Oxford LNE 6 plank wagon that I picked up in Glasgow seems to be spot on to the photo.

The bodywork of the Oxford 6-plank (Dia 3 I think) is pretty good, unfortunately they got the brakes wrong. I'm away from the information at the moment, but if I remember correctly, they've used either side brakes and they should be Morton (you can confirm in the relevant Tatlow book). Not too difficult to correct. Also, be aware that if you want to separate body and underframe, you have to take the buffers out (the whole moulding, not just the heads)!
