Check the weather Mike... I understand that there could be serious infliction of wet stuff this weekend (in the South East and around Guildford).

Hi Graham,

thanks for the heads up - the outboard is already on board, as are the navigation lights - fingers crossed that it might not be as bad as predicted. Hopefully will be back on board here on Monday.

cheers

Hi Graham,

fortunately, neither the outboard nor the lights were needed - weather was quite good on both legs of the journey. However, the down journey nearly eneded in disaster at the Pear Tree interchange at Oxford - I was pulling out to overtake a van coming up the on slip and my front wheel threw up a foreign object which slashed the rear nearside tyre - speed at the time was approaching 70mph - the most frightening aspect was changing the tyre with the traffic thundering past so close - the journey back had it's moment too, when an MX5 pulled out of a lay-by and stopped a short way in front of me just as I had re-entered the inside lane after overtaking one of Jordan's mates - the radiator grill of the lorry more than filling my rear view mirror!

All back home safe and sound now and looking forward to get back into the workshop.

cheers

Must have been localised rain then.... we did have some wet stuff this past wqeekend. Mind you, did not notice as I was too busy watching cars driving sideways on the wet stuff at Circuit La Sarthe (I think).

I had a similar moment when front tyre raised a metal spike which was lying on the motorway surface... got the rear tyre. At that time I had split rims with Firestone SAT tyres.... which was one of the few "popular" tyres in the 1980s that had steel plies in the side walls. Heard the bang as 35psi let loose and just continued - the steel plies held the side walls vertical and the split rims did not have a well base so the bead stayed in place. Drove about fifty miles home - the penalty was getting the beads off of the rim.... well and truly stuck.

regards, Graham
