Telford 2015

Layout all packed and ready.

Just the van to pick up to chuck it in first thing in the morning.

Never been to this show as an exhibitor before so should be interesting to see how it and the organisation compares with other 'society' run events we have attended with different layouts.

The car's almost packed, so that just leaves clothes and personal items, Best Beloved and me.

Depending on when we get to Telford, we shall either dump everything at the exhibition centre and then find the hotel, or we shall find the hotel and leave setting up until the morning.

Whatever way it happens, see you all soon!

Hi,

Heyside is on the 2 vans.

It took about 8 1/2 hours (with breaks and lunch) from starting to box the stock to closing the van doors. However, that does not tell the whole story in that the racking built for the Luton van had to be partially dismantled and rebuilt, the boards/buildings we have extended did not all fit on the racks so a number had to be taken out and relocated, an extra protective cover had to be built and we couldn't initially find a jiffy bag with some key bolts in.

The 2 x 4 metre vans has worked well, but they are both full. We have also filled the back of an estate car with buildings. With 2 x teams packing, I'm hopeful we can be away in a couple of hours after the show.

I look forward to seeing you there....I'm still painting the pub and cottages which we will fit on Saturday morning.

We hope to be at Telford for 1.00 as reassembling Heyside is not quick either.

Cheers

Richard

An easy run down for the Hospital team and a set up that wasrelaxed (but still fer less time than it took us to get the van from the hotel car park next door to the layouts location in the hall. (boy what a queue). Now relaxing in the International after a pleasant evening in Weatherspoons with the lads from Kendal.

That was a fab show. I didn't see half of it, but I had an excuse that I was busy showing off!

Great to meet old friends, make new friends, spend a little too much money and find out useful information about potential new commissions.

Here's my corner of the JLTRT road show (circus?) during a quiet spell. I a managed to glue about three parts on the LMS twin during the weekend, which is pretty good going really.

Best Beloved and I are spending a couple of days up here as a short break. The Severn Valley Railway tomorrow, RAF Museum Cosford Tuesday, then home on Wednesday.

I thought this year's Telford was one of the better ones I've visited. Heyside and The Summit being particular highlights. I also enjoyed the working crane on Yeoman's Quay.
Here are a few piccies.

and the new 'must have' wonder material is this
P1020835.JPG
It is used as a pallet topping for paper products. It is incredibly rigid, very lightweight and the Yeovil chaps have used it as the substructure for the scenery on The Summit. I wouldn't mind getting hold of some myself for our next club project.

Talking to Neil Parkhouse, the 2nd volume of his Gloucestershire Railways in Colour series - The Forest of Dean is about to go to the printers and should be available next month (no doubt a certain purveyor of printed material in Bath will have a goodly stock in due course).

At club, I've been bashing a 4mm Heljan 14 and now I want one in 7mm too - even to the extent of reviewing in full Jordan's old build of a PRMRP 14 over at the other place. I concluded it wasn't too bad and was considering a purchase but by chance asked at the JPL stall whatever became of the class 14 kit they had on their stand a few years ago. I was told that it became the basis of DJH's cast effort (hmmm, no thanks) but apparently the etched brass version of the kit maybe making an appearance in the not too distant future.... I'm in no rush so we'll see what happens.

I admired the Dapol Terrier, the Minerva Peckett and Lionheart's Tank wagons. I'm sure they'll all be very popular. Though talking to Richard Webster, the advance orders on the tanks are heavily biased toward the 'Shell-BP' and 'Esso' versions.

It was good to see a number of new developments at JLTRT too - SR Vans, Class 47, Derby Lightweight DMU (and there was other stuff I can't remember).

I've come away motivated to get stuff done this modelling season so it must have been a good show...

Having seen the gestation of the Summit over the last few years on periodic visits to Yeovil MRG's chicken shed headquarters I'm pleased to see it complete - I can vouch for how light the various bits are having helped move it too. Glad it went down well, looks like fun was had.

Hi,

We had a very good, and very tiring weekend. Nice to talk to those I could, and apologies if I was too busy or missed you.

The layout behaved itself well. There were a few loco failures and operator errors, but most of the time it was pretty smooth.

We had packed up and closed the van doors 2 1/2 hours after the close which I am pretty pleased with, though I think we could probably shave a little off this next time.

One van has been unloaded; the other will be unloaded tomorrow and some semblence of order put into the cellar.

Cheers,

Richard
